When William Samoei Ruto said we should start milking buffaloes, people laughed. I didn’t. Here in South Korea, I’ve been eating buffalo milk cheese for a while now, and trust me, it’s good stuff.

It’s called buffalo mozzarella, and it doesn’t come cheap. A small 125g pack is about KSh 645. Work that out and it’s over KSh 5,000 a kilo.

Out of curiosity, I looked into it. One litre of buffalo milk makes about 250g of this cheese, worth around KSh 1,290 in the shops here. Back home, a farmer gets about Sh50 for a litre of cow’s milk. And in Italy, buffalo milk sells for more than three times what cow’s milk does.

Before anyone asks, no, he’s not talking about the wild buffaloes in the Mara. These are tame water buffaloes. India and Italy have been milking them for generations.

I have to say, I like how Ruto is thinking ahead on this one. If other countries are making money from it, why can’t we?

A cow gives you more milk, yes. But a buffalo’s milk is worth more. Now picture our dairy cooperatives collecting that milk from farmers and making cheese right there at home. The money would stay in our villages.

So maybe we hold the jokes for a bit and look at the numbers first.

I’ve drunk buffalo milk in Dubai: rich and creamy. William Samoei Ruto is ahead of his time; his critics can’t match his innovation. He isn’t President by chance, he’s sharp.

Blessed Sunday at Sungduck Church, Seoul. Today’s word reminded me that forgiveness is where love begins, and that Christ is the only foundation worth building on. Refreshed and grateful. 🙏
