Detectives in Nairobi are reviewing CCTV footage after a loaded Ceska pistol belonging to a VIP protection officer was recovered at the Naivas Supermarket branch on Moi Avenue.

The firearm, assigned to Sergeant Amos Kimathi, was found wrapped in carrier bags at the luggage holding area in the supermarket’s fruit section. The recovery comes days after the officer reported the weapon missing from a city barbershop and spa where he had reportedly gone for a massage.

A subsequent inspection of the pistol revealed that two rounds were missing from its 15-round magazine, raising concerns it may have been used before being abandoned at the busy city-centre location.

CCTV footage from May 28—four days after Sergeant Kimathi reported the loss—shows a masked individual leaving the package at the supermarket. Ballistic experts are currently examining the weapon to determine if the missing ammunition was fired, as the hunt for the suspect intensifies.
