This past week, the Ministry of Health, under the steadfast leadership of CS Health Hon. Aden Duale and Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni Muriuki CBS, undertook transformative actions geared toward improving healthcare access, quality, and resilience across Kenya.
𝟏.𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬
PS Mary Muthoni joined CS Duale at the 21st Annual Scientific Conference of the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association in Mombasa, celebrating 50 years of dedicated service. Together, they reaffirmed support for pharmaceutical technologists as vital enablers of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), resilient supply chains, and primary healthcare.

In a strategic meeting with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the Ministry explored a partnership under the BRITE Programme to boost local biomanufacturing of antivenoms. This marks a step forward in addressing neglected tropical diseases through scientific innovation and health self-reliance.

The Cabinet approved a landmark Bill that proposes the establishment of an independent authority to oversee healthcare quality and safety. PS Muthoni underscored the importance of accountability, patient rights, and restoring public trust in health facilities.

Following continued health risks linked to petroleum contamination, the Ministry announced plans to issue a statutory notice to Kenya Pipeline Company. Interventions include clean water provision, health screenings, psychosocial support, and a comprehensive Health Impact Assessment.

PS Muthoni joined a live health segment to discuss pandemic preparedness, Mpox containment, hygiene promotion, and the role of Community Health Promoters. The focus was on people-centered reforms through the Social Health Authority and inclusive health governance.

The Ministry issued internship offer letters to 316 BSc Nursing graduates after a transparent review of the July 2025 posting cycle. This reflects the Ministry’s commitment to fairness, merit-based deployment, and strengthening the health workforce.
𝟕.𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐔𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐮
In a high-level visit, PS Muthoni joined CS Duale in engaging with the Governor of Uasin Gishu to enhance collaboration on primary healthcare, SHIF rollout, and essential medicines distribution. The county was lauded for its infrastructure upgrades and commitment to grassroots healthcare.

The Ministry officially launched the new KMTC Burnt Forest Campus is a game-changer in expanding access to quality medical training. The campus will equip young Kenyans with skills to serve at the grassroots, reducing training costs and boosting regional healthcare delivery.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to child health by promoting breastfeeding as a cornerstone of infant nutrition, bonding, and immunity. PS Muthoni encouraged communities to support mothers and protect the right to breastfeed.
