Karatina Bar owners whose bars were closed by the security committee in Mathira have pleaded with the government to allow them to reopen.

Addressing a press conference in Karatina town the bar owners led by their Chairman Charles Wachira said that they are undergoing huge losses amounting to millions of shillings daily.

"It's unfortunate that the government has closed down our businesses we have huge sticks of beers that we had bought using loans most of us will be auctioned unless this intervention is done " said Wachira .

Wachira added that the move to close the bars was unjustified since they are not selling illicit brews.

"As business people we are surprised that government officials decided to close our bars citing proximity to schools, Churches and residential homes this is unfair to us since we are not selling illicit brews they are fighting " said Wachira

Jane Njihia who has operated her pub for the last 38 years said that she has never flouted laws and she used her resources to campaign for the Kenya kwanza administration in 2022 General elections.

She also noted thousands of bar attendants, watchmen and other workers they have employed are now jobless after the closure of the bars.

"For me it's unbelievable that the same government that I used resources to campaign for has closed my only source of income. I beg deputy president Rigathi Gachagua to intervene and bail me out, " said Njihia .

The operators said that they are ready to help in the fight against illicit brews saying that they do not sell poison to people as portrayed by security apparatus.

Nyeri county commissioner Pius Murugu said on Monday that 100 bars have been closed as war against sale of illicit liquor intensifies.

Today is Lucy Njambi's murder case judgement day in Kiambu high court. Lucy Njambi of Karembu village, Kiamwangi Ward in Gatundu South was brutally killed in 2018 and her body mutilated with acid. Allegations befell her husband Samuel Ndung'u the former Liruta MCA who was arrested with three others, two men and a lady. Njambi left behind a 4yrs old son.
