Yesterday we officially opened the doors to —welcoming the media and creative community into a space built not just for work, but for connection, collaboration, and care.

Our Executive Director, Maurice Otieno, spoke on why now, while Cynthia Muthoni, our Head of Operations & Programs, reminded us that this isn’t just another hub—it’s yours.

Today, Baraza Media Lab led a powerful session bringing together 21 skilling partners under the Sanara Program for our quarterly catch-up. We discussed program progress and shared strategies to ensure alignment and clarity across all partners.

Women remain significantly underrepresented in career advancement and skilling opportunities. According to the UNESCO Global Report, women make up less than 30% of the global creative workforce and often face limited access to training, funding, and leadership roles.

At Baraza Media Lab, as the lead for Skilling for Work in the Sanara Program, we are taking deliberate steps to bridge this gap—collaborating with 21 skilling partners who are equipping young women across Kenya with market-driven skills in fashion, music, film, content creation, and digital media.

Through our hubs and training programs, we are creating safe, inclusive spaces where young women—especially those from marginalized backgrounds—can access industry-relevant training, mentorship, and career-building opportunities. These spaces provide the skills, networks, and confidence needed to navigate and thrive in the creative economy.

Today, as we mark the end of , we stand in solidarity with Kenyans who took to the streets to demand an end to femicide and gender-based violence. Their courage speaks to the urgency of this fight—to create a safer, more just, and equitable society for all.

Tragically, the peaceful protests in Nairobi were met with arrests, violence, and teargas—a stark reminder of the immense challenges Kenyans face when calling for justice and accountability.

We condemn the suppression of peaceful demonstrations and the use of force against citizens exercising their constitutional right to assemble and speak out. Calling for women’s safety is not a crime. Seeking justice for lives lost is not an offence.

The fight for justice continues.
