📸 WE CELEBRATED WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY DAY AT BML INDUSTRIAL AREA!

On 19 August, World Photography Day, we had an amazing afternoon bringing our creative community together to celebrate the art, stories and possibilities behind photography.

The day featured two key experiences:

🖼️ Stories Through Our Lens
An exhibition that gave us space to explore different photographic perspectives and engage with the stories captured through the lens.

💬 From Lens to Livelihood
A conversation exploring the business of photography, sustainable creative practice and how photographers can turn their craft into a livelihood.

It was a day filled with beautiful images, honest conversations, new perspectives and meaningful connections.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared their work, contributed to the conversations and celebrated with us.

Photography helps us see the world differently. This World Photography Day, we celebrated the people who make us look. 📸

What started as an idea at AMF 2026 grew into something bigger.

Together with Thomson Reuters Foundation, we brought creators and journalists into the same room to ask: what happens when different storytelling worlds meet?

What happens when creatives from the same community put the work aside for an evening and simply play?

You get laughter, unexpected alliances, new conversations and plenty of opportunities to collaborate. 🎲

On the 12th, creatives from the BML INDA community came together for our Members Mixer, an evening built around board games, snacks, friendly competition and genuine connection.

It was a chance to discover more about the people within our creative community, what they do, what they're passionate about, and what we could create together.

Because the strength of a creative community lies not only in the work we produce, but in the relationships we build along the way.

Thank you to everyone who came through and made the evening one to remember. 💛

We’ve got some news to share from Baraza.
A chapter closes. A new one begins.

After six years of leadership, our Executive Director Maurice Otieno is stepping down, and before we say anything else, we want to say thank you.
Maurice built Baraza into what it is today. Four hubs. The Africa Media Festival. The Fumbua collective. A community of journalists, artists, storytellers, and changemakers who believe that the right story, told well, can shift things. Maurice leaves behind an institution that is stronger, more connected, and well positioned for its next phase of growth. We extend our gratitude to him and wish him well in his future endeavors.

We would like to welcome Eric Kinaga as Baraza’s incoming Executive Director. Eric has spent over a decade working at the intersection of governance, public finance, and civic life across Kenya and East Africa, bringing grounded, mission-driven experience to Baraza.

Welcome, Eric Kinaga. We’re glad you’re here.
