I’m sorry it didn’t work out—
not with a bang, not with a fire,
but with the quiet fizzle of a star
that forgot how to burn.

I’m sorry we became a question mark
curled at the end of a sentence
we once whispered like a vow.
Sorry for the way my hands
still reach for you in the dark,
finding only the ghost of your warmth
on sheets that remember you better than I do.

But most of all, I’m sorry
for the love that didn’t fit,
for the way we poured ourselves
into a cup with cracks we couldn’t see.
We overflowed. We drained.
We were too much and never enough
all at once.
