Learning Paralyzed at Sango Baptist Primary as Land Owners Lock School Over Unpaid Land Debt
Learning at Sango Baptist Primary School in Kimilili has been brought to a standstill after individuals who provided land for the school’s establishment locked the institution, demanding the Kimilili NG-CDF settle long-standing land compensation arrears.
Confusion engulfed the school compound early in the morning as teachers and pupils arrived for lessons only to find the gate chained. Members of the School Board of Management, caught unaware, rushed to the scene but found the landowners had already proceeded to Kimilili CDF offices to press for payment.
Pupils were forced to jump over the fence, spilling onto the road while chanting “Haki Yetu!” in protest over the closure. Teachers watched helplessly from the roadside as learning activities came to a complete halt.
Parents and school officials have now appealed to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa and the CDF committee to urgently intervene and resolve the land dispute, warning that continued inaction will disrupt the pupils’ education further.
