Bandari FC, the only Coastal side in the top tier league has embarked on strengthening their squad ahead of the new campaign, after finishing a disappointing eighth in the 2024/2025 season.
The Ken Odhiambo-coached side collected 44 points from 34 matches in what was an embarrassing outing for the well sponsored team in the Kenyan league.

But what does not sit well with their fans is how they operate their recruitment as most of the signed players and those who are linked to join the Dockers are those who are free agents or their former players who left the side for different reasons.

Omar Somobwana, a young right back, left Bandari last season to join Somali Premier League side and then returned to Bandari Youth and now the senior team again.

Boniface Mwangemi is another player who at a certain period in the last two seasons suffered an injury before joining Posta Rangers where he played the last league match against Bandari, a match maybe which recaptured their attention on him again.

Bandari has also been said to have captured the service of former Bidco United midfielder Said Tsuma who had lost his position in the Thika based side last season.

Others who are said to have returned to Bandari are Abdallah Hassan, who turned out for Coastal Union of Tanzania, and Mohammed Agege Katana who at one time also briefly played for the Mombasa based side.

Questions have also emerged as to who is behind the signing of the players with coach Odhiambo still out of the country for vacation after the completion of the season.

Immediate Shabana FC winger Darius Msagha is the only player to have returned to the side being on his top form after a good spell with Gusii based side last season having received offers from top teams in the local league.

It is not only in the playing sector but also at the technical bench where former goalkeeper trainer Razak Siwa is also on his way back at Bandari after short stints in Tanzania division one side Bumbani Stars.

The team has already lost fullback Siraj Mohammed and goalkeeper Bryne Omondi, currently with the national team Harambee Stars, and have joined record champions Gor Mahia FC with other players also set to ditch the side for greener pasture.

Bandari have been yearning for their debut league title having won the FKF Cup under Bernard Mwalala, but with their current recruitment process and the competitiveness of the league, will they achieve their dream?

HEARTFELT WISHES TO MAOLINE

Maoline Gichaba suffered a stroke in December 2024, resulting in the loss of mobility and speech. While her speech has since improved, mobility remains a challenge.

Her story was featured on Egetabu Kioyera, a popular segment aired every Thursday at 10:00 PM, during the evening drive show.

Following the broadcast, generous listeners contributed KSh 28,000 to support her recovery.

The Walkabout Foundation responded by donating a wheelchair.

Additionally, we purchased a tripod, foot splint, and ankle splint as prescribed by her doctor, at a cost of KSh 10,500, and covered seven months of physiotherapy sessions at KSh 8,400.

The remaining funds were handed over to her mother, who is her primary caregiver.

We extend our heartfelt wishes to Maoline for a full and speedy recovery.
