A man in Kitengela says he was left shocked after discovering that his wife had travelled to Saudi Arabia for domestic work without informing him.
Benard Ongaki Omboga says he dropped his wife at what he believed was her usual workplace, expecting her to return home later that day. When she failed to come back, he began searching for her and later learned that she had already left the country for Saudi Arabia.
The 48 year old is now caring for their three children alone while trying to balance work and family responsibilities. He says the children continue to ask about their mother every day as they struggle to cope with her absence.
Omboga is now calling on the government to investigate recruitment agencies involved in sending workers abroad. He believes families should be fully informed before such departures and has raised concerns about the recruitment process for domestic workers travelling to Saudi Arabia.
