Shabana FC have protested FKF’s decision to move their January league match against Gor Mahia to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The Federation is said to have cited safety concerns following chaos witnessed during a previous meeting between the two sides last season.
However, Shabana argue that the decision was reached without their involvement and have questioned why a fixture in which they are the designated home team was relocated to what they describe as their opponent’s home ground.
In a strongly worded statement, Shabana emphasised that both Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium are officially registered home venues for Gor Mahia FC, making the decision unacceptable.
“Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium are officially registered home grounds for Gor Mahia FC. In this case, Shabana FC is the home team, not Gor Mahia. It is unacceptable for our home fixture to be changed unilaterally and relocated to our opponent’s home ground without prior notice, justification, or consultation,” the club stated.
Shabana further argued that the move undermines the principles of fairness, transparency, and sporting integrity.
“That move and action lack fairness, transparency, and the integrity of competition. Football is a game of fairness, and its administration should not be handled with fear or favouritism towards any team,” the statement added.
The Gusii-based club also insisted that they have not received any official communication explaining the change of venue and therefore do not recognise the decision.
“Our match against Gor Mahia remains scheduled to be played at Gusii Stadium, which is our registered home ground, as we have not received any official communication outlining the reasons for the change of venue,” Shabana maintained.
