✍️ Desperation Doesn't Check for Danger, It Just Reaches for Hope
Episode 3: When Desperation Grows Wings

Three weeks had passed.

Nelly had learned the rhythm of the compound. Who bathed late. Who fought loudly. Who stole the Wi-Fi. She swept the corridor every morning before anyone else woke up — not because she was told, but because it bought her peace. She’d become invisible, and that suited her.

She did laundry for two households nearby, got paid in coins and leftovers. The cousin stopped talking much. But he didn't throw her out. That counted as grace.

Her baby, little Taji, had begun to laugh. Even in hunger, even in heat. That laugh kept her going.

But today was different.

She had taken the baby to a nearby clinic after a slight fever. While waiting, she felt a hand brush her shoulder.

She turned.

Her breath caught.

Him.

The baby’s father. In clean jeans. New shoes. And that same sweet, poisonous charm.

“Nelly?”

She blinked. “What are you doing here?”

“I... I heard you were back. I was looking for you.”

She looked at the baby. Then back at him. “Now?”

“I want to talk. I want to fix things.”

She let out a small laugh — not amused, just exhausted. “Fix what? You left. You knew I was pregnant. You left.”

He lowered his eyes. “I was scared.”

Desperation doesn’t check for danger, it just reaches for hope.

But this time, she didn’t reach. Not blindly.

“Listen,” she said, standing tall. “Fear is a privilege. You get to run. I don’t. I carry the consequence. I carry him.”

He looked away, biting his lip. “Can I at least see him?”

She knelt beside the stroller, gently pulled back the shawl.

“This is Taji. He doesn’t know you. But maybe one day, if you stay consistent, he will.”

She turned to go.

He grabbed her hand gently. “I have a job now. A house. You don’t have to suffer. Come stay with me.”

She stared at his hand, then at the sky.

Three weeks ago, she would’ve said yes before he finished the sentence.
Now… she had scars, but also wings.

“No,” she whispered. “I’m done waiting at gates.”

She walked away — slow, steady, sun in her face, baby by her side.

Because sometimes, hope doesn’t come from what you run to.
It comes from what you finally walk away from.

The End.

✍️✍️ Desperation Doesn't Check for Danger, It Just Reaches for Hope
Episode 2: The Thin Mattress and Thicker Thoughts

The mattress she was given was thin. So thin she felt the hard floor beneath it with every movement. But after three straight nights on the verandah of a closed salon, it felt like a five-star upgrade.

The cousin hadn’t said much after letting her in — just pointed to the corner. “There’s a leso and a mattress. Use that. The baby can sleep there too.”

Nelly had nodded. “Thank you,” she whispered, though the words felt too small for the storm in her chest.

Now, with the baby finally asleep beside her, she stared at the stained ceiling. A spider crawled lazily across one corner. A half-burned mosquito coil sent out thin smoke lines that stung her nose but kept the bites away.

She thought of her mother. Dead.
She thought of her sister. Married, but barely surviving.
She thought of the baby’s father.
He hadn't come home.
She knew he wouldn’t.

This was a man who walked away from promises like they were wrappers — used, crumpled, tossed. But she had nowhere else to go. That was the part that shamed her the most.

Desperation doesn’t check for danger. It just reaches for hope.

And this house — this gate — this man… was hope, even if it came with a warning label.

The door creaked open slowly. Her heart tightened. But it was the cousin again, holding a flask.

“I thought maybe you'd want some hot water... for the baby, or for tea. There's no milk though.”

She sat up quickly. “God bless you,” she said, more to the gesture than the man. He didn’t smile. He just placed the flask near the wall and left.

Behind the closed door, she heard him mumble on the phone. Something about “ameingia na mtoto wake… sijui k**a ni drama tena.”
She blinked hard to stop the tears.

She wasn't here to beg for love.
She was here to survive.

And tomorrow… she’d start looking for a job. Anything. Cleaning. Washing clothes. Selling smokies.
Anything to give her baby more than borrowed mattresses and side-eyes from relatives.

Tonight, she would hold her child tight, block the noise, and sleep.

Because in the end, the only thing stronger than fear…
was a mother with nothing to lose.

✍️✍️Desperation Doesn't Check for Danger, It Just Reaches for Hope
Episode 1.

It was 2:13 a.m. when Nelly stood outside the gate, barefoot, holding her sleeping baby with one arm and a polythene bag in the other. Her phone was dead. Her stomach was empty. Her pride was long gone.

She stared at the dimly lit compound, unsure whether to knock or walk away. She’d blocked this man a year ago. The same man who once left her in a lodging with nothing but a promise and a used condom. But tonight… he was the only name her heart could spell when the landlord threw her out and the baby wouldn't stop crying.

Desperation doesn’t check for danger, it just reaches for hope.

She knocked. Once. Twice. Silence. She was about to turn when the gate creaked open, revealing a sleepy face — not his, but his cousin's.

"Ni nani?"

"Ni mimi… Nelly. Na mtoto wake."

A long pause.

The cousin looked at her, then the baby, then back at her. “Hadi uamue kurudi hapa?”

She didn’t answer. Her eyes said enough. The cousin sighed, stepped aside, and let her in.

The warmth of the room was immediate. Not from comfort — it was chaos inside — but it was still better than the cold outside.

She didn’t sleep much that night. She just stared at the baby, wondering if this was salvation or another bad decision wearing a new coat.

But one thing she knew for sure: tonight, she didn’t run to safety.

She ran to maybe.

Because that’s what desperation does.

Nilikuwa nakatia huyu dame. She was in University then and I was kadere wa mat Dandora. You have to give it to a brother that dreams big. The more narusha mistari the more ziligonga ukuta. I was so determined to win her. She was so determined to reject me. Na akanikataa kabisa kabisa. Najua ni uniform ya Matatu ilinichomea🤣

"Kwerrah, Siku moja utajileta kwangu tu", I told her.

She burst out laughing, I had to laugh at myself too. I am a sore loser.

"Nijikute", she declared.

I moved to Mombasa and forgot about her.

One night, masaa saba saba usiku, I got a phone call from her. I didn't want to pick it at first. Thinking about her made me sad. I answered her call anyway.

Her: Niaje Jay?.

Me: Poa sana. Sema?

Her: Pole nimekuamsha. Niko kwa njia naja Mombasa na mtu nilikuwa naenda kwake hachukui simu. I have never been to Mombasa. You are the only guy I know, anaishi uko. Naweza pata pahali pa kukaa hata siku mbili?.

Me: Yes. Kuna place nyingi za kuishi. Kuna ya 800 bob per day najua.

Her: Mimi sina hio pesa. Nauliza k**a naweza kaa kwako.

It was my time to laugh at her. Nilicheka nikaamsha majirani.

Her: Unacheka nini nugu hii?.

Me: Hakuna. I am just happy to hear from you.

Her: Wewe niambie k**a utanikujia stage ama hautakuja fala hii...

Me: Hey, no biggie. Ukifika nishow.

I was waking up kwenda shift ya asubuhi ya matatu. I had to cancel it.

She called me at Bondeni Mombasa. Most buses still hadn't moved to Mwembe tayari then.

Her: Nimefika, ukoo?

Me: Kwa nyumba. Niko bed.

Her: Haunikujii?

Me: Vuka bara bara uende hio side ingine. Ukisikia Matatu za Bamburi mwisho panda hio. Ambia makanga akushukishe Mtopanga utanipata. Uko na fare?.

Her: Niko na mia mbili.

Me: Hio ni tosha. Itakufikisha. Fare ni 40bob mpaka Mtopanga. Kumbuka kuambia kondakta asikupitishe.

Few minutes later she called me at Mtopanga.

Her: Nimeshukishwa mtopanga. Ukoo?

Me: Niko kwa nyumba bado. Niko kwa bed.

Her: Sasa nifanye nini?.

Me: Unaona piki piki hapo?. Panda na up*e mtu wa piki piki simu.

After a few seconds...

Her: Ongea naye.

Me: Vipi kaka braza. Habari ya asubuhi(you have to say hi to Pwani people. Salamu muhimu).

Him: Niko poa kaka. Namleta wapi huyu dada? Duuh, na alivyo mzuri kweli.

Me: Wuewee, focus. Waona kwenye ile taa hapo nyuma ya posta.......

Two minutes later, he hooted outside my door. It was saa kumi na moja asubuhi. I got out to open the door for her and gloat....

"Nilikwambia utajileta mwenyewe", was the first thing I told her.

She called me Nugu hii unaona umeangukia. Hugged me very tight and I let her in.

She was exhausted so vile aliona bed, she stripped to her under garments na akajirusha kulala.

When she woke up, at 9 asubuhi, she told me how she ended up at my place. She had been stood up. It was on a furahiday and I told her she was stuck with me for the weekend. I still couldn't believe someone had stood up mali safi namna hio.

Took her to the beach. She had come with swim wear. She only drank wine then and that's what I bought her. She hadn't discovered beer or makali. Juzi, I was at her place and we took black label shots. What a transformation?.

After the beach, sisi hao, Bob's for more wine. We got back in the house in the wee hours of the morning. Went straight to the bed. I wasn't making any move nipime imani yake. I told you guys, tenda wema and stay put. Don't go nowhere, unaweza pewa tako.

She reached for my shamukwale. This thing was born stiff.

"Waah, okay" , she exclaimed and let it go.

I asked, "kuna nini?

"I just wanted to know k**a inafanya kazi. Ule Jay najua would be all over me now?", she replied.

"Na ukipata inafanya kazi?. Do you want me to be all over you?", I asked her.

"Mimi sijasema hivyo", she said.

I was going to tease her to death. I wrapped my arms around her. Made sure my hands were making enough contact with her tirries. I could feel her body move. She wanted more of the touch. I now had her where I needed her. I would occasionally brush my hands on her bo***es and go back to massaging her belly. I enjoyed her change of breathing.

"Umeamua kunitesa?", she finally found her voice.

"Nini?", Mimi najifanya hamnazo.

She got tired and grabbed my shamukwale. Yanked it from my boxers and rubbed it against her face. She looked at me. Probably waiting for me to speak. I smiled at her and said nothing. Nilikuwa nakusanya evidence ya hii story. I didn't say anything. She kissed my shamukwale and traced the curve on it to the balls with her fingers. Then put me in her mouth. I wanted to sing Katombi's song, "Ătai masima Moto mbuloo". The way she was grasping my shamukwale.

I pushed her minutes before I started firing like a gun.

"Just touch me", she begged me.

I grabbed her hair. And pushed her on top of me. Her skin was hot. I was holding her tightly. I wanted to feel the pressing of all her soft curves. Her tirries pressed against my chest felt good.

I rolled over and got on top of her. Her cookie jar was wet and open ready for me. She reached down and guided my shamukwale inside her and whispered in my ear, "hii ndio kitu umefukuzia miaka mingi. Ni yako yote".

Sieeeet!...

I was hit by dry spell ajab siku ingine hapo. Unaamka umembao kila siku. I turned to my friend. I have known her for over 5 years and I had never shown her any interest in terms of extra curricular activities. She has never shown interest she wants anything with me either. Kwani kila siku lazima Mimi?. I called her akiwa job nijieleze.

"Monica, siunajua mabeste ni kuokoleana?Na nikiwa na shida nitakuambia wewe tu?", I told her.

"Yeah, I mean what are friends for. Jay, you can tell me anything. You are my G", she told me.

I should have stopped at that point. When a woman refers to you as her G, you ain't hitting nothing my fren. She is not sleeping with you. But mi ni nanii?.

"Mimi niko mbaya. Niko mbaya saidi",I told her.

"Are you dying?", she asked me.

"Woooa. No, silly.Niko dry spell mbaya my dear?", I explained to her.

"Eti umesema nini?", she pretended not to have heard me.

"Niokolee Tu. Niko dry spell", I humbly requested her

"Are you asking me to have s*x with you", she asked me..

"Yeah. That's what's up", I told her bila haya.

She laughed hysterically na akakataa.

"Aiii, hapaanaa Jay, haiwezi. Mbona Mimi?. Wapi wale mahoe wako unapendaga?. Nilikwambia utakuja kubaki solo. Siunajua Niko na Mtu saa hii na nilikushow mi huwa loyal", she chided me.

"Ungekuwa huna mtu ungenipea hivyo?", I asked her.

You have to give it to a brother for planning ahead on tackling and mitigating future dry spells. Akikosana na huyo mtu, halafu🤣🤣.

"Jay, zile siku nilikuwa nakutaka uliringa", she told me.

I stayed quiet. At least alinitaka even though I don't recall her akinitaka.

"Ulidhani Sina Pvssy?", she continued.

"Heey, sasa hizi ni gani. Ningedhani hauna singekuomba. I don't remember when you wanted me, lakini ni Sawa Tu basi", I told her.

"Kumbe ukiomba ikus huwa unanyenyekea hivi?", she was determined to make fun of me.

"Heey, ni Sawa. Juu saa hii unanienjoy, wacha nitafute kwingine", I told her and hung up on her.

Aaaah Siakae, siakae, aaaah kaa hizi nyege zitanimanda si zinimande basi.!!!!.

After a few mins, she called me back.

"Heey, wewe ni mtu wangu Naweza kusaidia. Check your WhatsApp", she told me.

She had sent me three pictures of a very fine woman. One showing her shapely ess, another focusing on majegi and her full picture in a floral dress serving legs for days. .

"Who be this abi?", I asked her in a text.

"Do you like her?", she asked me.

"She is fire. I love her body shape. Cheki hio ess na majegi. Nip*e huyu na uchukue kila kitu yangu", I told her.

"Majegi na mahaga ndio ulipenda. She is seated right here next to me in the office ", she told me.

I texted her, "get out of here"....

"Niende wapi?",she asked. "Unataka kusaidika ama hutaki?, she wanted to know.

"You are playing with me,right?", I asked her.

She didn't answer right away. She called me.

"Haya basi ongea naye", she said and handed her the phone.

"Hello", I said like a Mumu man.

"Hello",the other girl answered.

"Are you guys for real?", I asked her.

"Yeah, Mbona umeshtuka hivi", she answered in that coast Swahili accent.

"Does she have your nudes and threatening to release them if you don't agree to this?", I asked her.

She replied with that coast Swahili," la ashaa. hapana".

Lost for words, I said, "waaa, okay then".

She said, "wacha nimregeshee simu muongee basi".

"Naaah, usimpe kwanza. I love how you talk", I told her. My charm offensive kicking in.

"Ahsante", she said.
I could hear my bestie on the phone complaining tunammalizia airtime.

We had that instant kaconnection. We set a meeting time that same day. She handed back the phone to my bestie.

"You owe me big time. Na usijaribu uniangushe. Treat my friend well", she told me.

"I will get you a male stripper on your birthday. How does that sound?", I teased her.

"Niko na Mtu nikitaka stripper atastrip. She knows what she is coming there for. Usiniangushe", she told me.

Booked a hotel. Na nikaenda mapema kwa room kupractice kumpea strokes. Nikameza Njugu na cashewnuts na ujipower jug mbili. Karibu nivimbiwe. I had one job to do. To deliver a man of the mechi performance.

She arrived at the hotel, after work. Came straight up to the room. We hugged. She looked even better in the pics and I told her that.

"Woman, this is where I give you a chance to either run away or change your mind", I told her.

"Which chance when you are blocking the door?", she asked smiling.

I ordered her food and wine. We got acquainted over food and wine. I learnt she had just been transferred to the job from Mombasa a month plus ago and she had no friends apart from Monika, the matchmaker.

The following day, Monika called me to tell me she had asked her so many questions about me.

"Kwani ulimpea aje she can't stop talking about you?", she wanted to know.

That evening, without Monika's knowledge, she took me to her house that only had a bed and nothing else. Return leg.

Wimens, wacheni kutusifu kwa marafiki zenu k**a tunapiga mechi safi. Resist and desist. Punguzeni pang'ang'a. You are delivering us into temptations. Na mnajua vizuri we won't say no. Nyinyi furahieni peke yenyu. Na mnyamazie kabisa. Kisa na maana gani......

Was seeing this mumama. She is older by 5 years. The only thing that made her Mumama was her money. Though she has grown kids in their 20's. She had kids early and now she is slaying. She is ageing like Esther Passaris. Can you believe Esther is 59yrs?. Well, mine now just hit 40.

Once she established I wasn't messing with any of her daughters, she made me her right hand man. Namaanisha jamaa wa mkono. She is mama miradi. One of her miradi was a guest house she was building in Matuu. At first, I was running errands for her when I was free. And for her, I was free more times than I was busy. Then we began running those errands together.

Happens najua machuom za kupata vitu na deal. Na deal, means stolen elsewhere. If you are DCI this is not your story. I am a sly mazafuaka. I got wind of chuma za kujenga zilikuwa zinauzwa place. Getting wind is I know who was stealing and from where. Nikageuka broker ghafla. I supplied chumas for that guest house ikijengwa. Chuma za floor nne. Hata Mimi nikapona.

Tukaja tukachelewa matuu usiku Moja and we had to look for a room. Tulitafuta double bed tukakosa.

"Kwani umesikia nitakukula tukilala kitanda moja", she asked me.

I smiled.

We got to the bed, I was the first on it. I stripped down to my boxers and rukad kwa bed

"Ujue unalala kwa ukuta", I told her.

She sat on a plastic chair looking at me.

"K**a unaniogopa zima taa utoe chenye unatoa", I teased her.

"Nikiogopa nini?, she retorted.

"WikĂşmaa wĂlikaaa", I thought to myself. (Don't know that phrase in any other language. Just ignore it).

She stripped to her un**es and came to the bed. Akienda kunipita juu, I held her hapo juu. She just looked at me. Not very surprised.

"Najua unafurahia umenipata rahisi", she told me.

She stayed on top of me for a moment after I had let her go looking at me. I matched her gaze. Finally, she fell on her side of bed. Akavuta duvet. She is facing the wall. Tukajifunika. Our skins touching. Mimi nimembao k**a mbuzi ndume tayari. Imusenzi yethenge...

She felt my bolingo ya telefone and said,"na unasimama ovyo ovyo aje".

I didn't reply. Instead I asked her, "umeamua kulala na bra?".

"Ikikuchosha itoe", she replied. I was enjoying that back and forth.

Ile talent ya kutoa bra na mkono moja, sio ya meja peke yake. But nik**a Mimi sina. I fumbled trying to reach for the hook. She enjoyed that very much. Hio kitu haina hook.

"Kwani hii yako umevaa k**a sweater?", I asked her after kulemewa.

She got hold of my hand and showed me where the hook was. Turns out, the hook was Infront. Wakamba, Nani waliketi chini wakaamua tuite bra Sindilia?. It's only Sindilia if they are big. Just saying. K**a tudogo, nĂkakanda kaĂseka kithĂşi(Kamba ya kujifunga kifua).

I stopped trying to unhook it. And went touched her thighland. She didn't expect it. She je**ed as I found my way up. When I put my hand inside her panties, she moved her mjiass closer to me na akainua mguu Moja akaniwekelea. She began making those glorious noises as I was stroking the lips of her ninio.

She undid her Sindilia mwenyewe and I had access of her siegsy melons. I attacked them with my mouth. Got on top and she guided me into her cookie jar. Mechi kicked off.

"Nitakojoa toka babe", she announced after fiery shots.

I didn't listen to her. I ignored her completely. I mean who kojoas k**a amekushikilia anasema don't stop. Ni yeye awache kukojoa ama ni Mimi?. Na hio nguvu ya kugrab mtu hivyo mnatoaga wapi?.

She p*ed. That glorious p*e you call squirting.

"Umenifanyia nini?", she asked.

I had to explain to her hio sio mkojo. We had to turn the mattress on the other side.
And that was the beginning of our many matuu conference cup mechis.

....★★★★....

Her and her six friends were going to some kyathi one day. She asked me nikodishe a seven seater for three days. Went to my friends at Royal Umbrella Rent A Car and got a good deal. She done went and told one of those friends kwa kyathi that I was making her happy between the sheets. That my yam ndio kusema. I don't know what else she said about me.

When I was dropping them back after three days, the friend was the last person I dropped. She asked me for my number in case she needed a driver. She started forwarding me funny videos on WhatsApp that same night. Very suggestive videos.

After two weeks, she called me tuende Voi. Nikajua ni kazi tu. Left my car in her house and used hers. We left in the afternoon. Kwa njia ananihoji hoji. Vile tunajuana with her friend. She had a bottle ameweka wine. Anapiga masip tu. I refused to sip. Si Niko kazi. Kazin't it?.

We got to Voi in the evening. She made a call and announced a change of plans. We had a new destination, Mombasa. Fikad Mombasa saa nne usiku. Booked us into a hotel. Double bed. Na sarakasi zikaanza. She shoots straight. I was trafficked there for mechi. That is Dick trafficking.

I was going to mechi for free. But kwanza I wanted her to sweat it out.

"Na Rafiki yako akijua", I asked her.

"Nitakulipa unyamaze", she told me. My eyes lit up.

I had never negotiated money in exchange of a Diek. I have in exchange of a Pvssy though. Mimi sio mchache. Nishawahi ambiwa na a femeo I was paying, "ukija na elfu tano tutakufurahisha pamoja na beste yangu. Ule mmoja unapendaga". Th*****me manenos.

I didn't go. I am good with one woman at a time. Sio umati ya pudeshi. Nitachemsha.

This here was a first. I was the one being paid.

"Unataka ngapi?", she asked me.

"Shida zangu huwezi maliza", I told her.

Someone told me never make the first offer.

She offered me good mullah. My rent then ya mwaka mzima. And I told her, I paid 22k. My actual rent was 12. But watu wamejenga kwao wanajuana nyumba zilipanda bei.

And I proceeded to deliver performance k**a ya Rice against Madrid juzi. 33 touches, 29 dribbles down her belly. 90/95 complete strokes, 5 tirries recoveries, 3 shots on target and 2 mind blowing organisms. Stats don't lie. I delivered a man of the mechi performance for three straight days. Playing like Rice but Tackling like Caicedo na work rate ya prime Kante🤣

K**a ni Noma tulisema tunaachia Directline, halafu wakatutoka...
