A PUZZLE THAT NEVER GOT A SOLUTION
On 19th September 2018, Jackie Maribe walked into Citizen TV studios like any other workday โ makeup on point, scripts ready, lunchtime news waiting.
What she didnโt know?
One of the stories she was about to read would flip her life upside down forever.
Because the murder she was about to reportโฆ
had been committed by her own fiancรฉ.
And the victim?
๐ Monica Kimani.
Monica was 29.
A bubbly, ambitious babe.
Fresh from Juba, barely hours in Nairobiโฆ
before her lifeless body was found dumped in her bathtub at Lamuria Gardens, Kilimani.
Throat slit.
Naked.
Shower running โ like someone was trying to wash away a sin.
The whole country was shocked.
Even Jackie โ who was calmly reading the news โ had no idea she was unknowingly narrating her own nightmare.
At the time, Jackie was engaged to Jowie Irungu.
Guy had proposed months earlier.
Had even dropped her to work that morning.
Lover boy vibes. Future husband energy.
So tell meโฆ
How could he possibly be involved in a murder that happened while she was at work?
Wellโฆ buckle up.
ENTER MONICA
That same morning in Juba, Monica woke up energized.
She had a packed schedule:
- Handle business for their family company (Milly Pol Trading)
- Fly back to Nairobi
- Meet her mum
- Hand over car documents
- Then fly to Dubai
Why Dubai?
Because thatโs where her man was โ Yassir Mohammed, a big-shot Sudanese businessman linked to Caterpillar & UNICEF deals.
The plan?
Link up. Chill. Enjoy life.
But while Monica was planning love and businessโฆ
Another man was plotting death.
ENTER JOWIE
Jowie had met Monica on Instagram.
A few DMs - flirting - vibes - FWB.
Later Monica found out he had gone to school with her brother.
That made her relax.
Plus he claimed to work at State House.
Red flag? Maybe.
But Monica didnโt see it then.
They met again on 30th August at her house.
Drinks. Nyama. Adult activities.
But both were in serious relationships, so everything was kept on the low.
What Monica didnโt know?
Jowie discovered something valuable in that house.
Something he wanted so badly, he was willing to kill for it.
THE SETUP
When Monica told him she was returning on 19th Sept, Jowie lied and said heโd be in Mombasa on duty.
Instead, he:
- Bought a kanzu
- Stole an ID from a neighbor (Dominic Bisera)
- Planned to sneak into her apartment pretending to be someone else
That same day:
- Monica landed at JKIA around 7PM
- Gave documents to a boda guy
- Headed straight home
Meanwhileโฆ
Jowie linked up with his GSU friend Orlando at Road House Grill.
Drinks. Vibes. Shots. Two ladies joined.
Then boom.
At around 8PM, Jowie said he wanted to leave.
But instead of driving himself, he asked Orlando to drive โ weird move.
Midway, they stopped at a petrol station.
Jowie changed into the kanzu, said he was going to meet a โSudanese friend,โ then dipped using a cab.
That was the last time Orlando saw him that night.
THE FINAL MOMENTS
At around 8:30PM, Jowie arrived at Lamuria Gardens.
Security stopped him.
He produced the stolen ID.
They called Monica to confirm.
When she heard the voice, she recognized himโฆ
and allowed him in.
She even told her neighbor, a Lebanese man called Walid,
โAh, huyo ni security.โ
Later, another friend (Lee Omondi) came by, picked documents, had a drink, and left.
By 11PM, Monica was alone with Jowie.
At 11:21PM, he walked out.
But Monica never walked again.
She was found:
- Naked in the bathtub
- Throat slit
- Shower running to erase evidence
THE AFTERMATH
Jowie calmly:
- Took a cab
- Picked his car
- Drove to Club 40Forty
- Joined Jackie Maribe and Sonko
- Partied like nothing happened
Next day?
Jackie read the news about Monicaโs murder โ live on TV.
Days later, the truth exploded.
Jowie was arrested.
Charged.
And eventually jailed for life.
THE BIG QUESTION
Why did he do it?
Money?
Jealousy?
Something hidden in that house?
A deal gone wrong?
To date, only Jowie knows the real reason.
And Monica paid the price.
