The late was born of good health and remained so throughout her life until August 2019 while on her random checkups, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She commenced treatment immediately (Chemotherapy/ Radiotherapy & Surgery) at Nairobi Hospital, Nairobi Radiotherapy and Cancer Centre. She was responding well to treatment till late 2022 when cancer spread to the liver, spine and bones. She was undergoing treatment for the same until her demise.

Mary Barbra Katami was born on 30th April 1961 in Properties village (currently Kitalale), Saboti Constituency- Trans Nzoia County. She was a daughter to the late Mr. John Situma Kundu (Kali) and the late Mama Rosemary Naliaka Kundu and the late Esther Nasipwondi Kundu.
She was sister to the late Christine, the late Josephat, late Fredrick, late Agnes, Bonventure, Cyrus, Jane, Evans, Geoffrey, late Moses, Sylvia, Ronald, late Margaret, Francis, Beatrice, late Patrick and Joseph.

Daughter-in-law to the late Clement Katami and Agnetta Nabututu, Diana Nasike and late Jane Namarome.
Sister in-law to the late Clay, Alfred, late Charles, Gilbert, Benard, Geoffrey, Hellen, Felisters, Margaret, David, Eunice, Gladys, Mary, Juliana, Alice, Emmanuel, late Catherine, Moses and late Gertrude
