CHRISTMAS: GOD VISITS, BRINGS PEACE, AND DEMANDS CHANGE
Main Texts: Luke 2:10–11 | Judges 6:19–30
INTRODUCTION (1 minute)
Many people celebrate Christmas as a tradition, but Christmas is actually a divine visitation.
Just as God visited Gideon in Judges 6, God visited humanity through Jesus Christ.
“Today… a Savior has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
I. GOD VISITS PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE (Judges 6:19–22) – 3 minutes
Gideon was hiding in fear when the Angel of the Lord appeared.
He prepared an offering, and fire came from the rock and consumed it.
Explanation:
Fire represents God’s acceptance.
Gideon realized he had encountered God and feared death.
👉 Christmas teaches us the same truth:
Jesus was born in a manger—God came to fearful, broken humanity.
II. GOD BRINGS PEACE THROUGH HIS PRESENCE (Judges 6:23–24) – 2 minutes
God told Gideon:
“Peace! Do not be afraid. You shall not die.”
Gideon built an altar and called it Jehovah Shalom – The Lord is Peace.
Christmas Connection:
📖 Isaiah 9:6 — Prince of Peace
📖 Luke 2:14 — Peace on earth
👉 Christmas is God declaring peace to sinners through Christ.
III. GOD DEMANDS CHANGE AFTER THE VISITATION (Judges 6:25–27) – 2 minutes
The same night, God commanded Gideon to:
Tear down the altar of Baal
Cut down the Asherah pole
Build an altar to the Lord
Explanation:
God will not share glory with idols.
Deliverance begins with destroying false altars.
👉 Christmas is not just celebration—it is repentance and surrender.
IV. TRUE OBEDIENCE MAY BRING OPPOSITION (Judges 6:28–30) – 1 minute
When Gideon obeyed:
The town rose against him
Obedience brought resistance
Lesson:
Standing for God may cost you approval, but it brings God’s backing.
Jesus Himself faced rejection after His birth.
CONCLUSION & CALL (1 minute)
Christmas shows us three truths:
God visits us
God brings peace
God demands change
🎄 Don’t just celebrate Christmas—respond to it.
Tear down every altar that competes with Christ and receive His peace.
“The Lord is with you.” (Judges 6:12)
