MP WAMALWA INCREASES VISIBILITY ACROSS TRANS NZOIA,AS NATEMBEYA GOES NATIONAL.
The immediate former Kiminini MP, Dr. Chris Wamalwa, is fast regaining his popularity and is now seen as a possible replacement for Governor George Natembeya, who has declared an interest in joining national politics.
Wamalwa emerged second in the 2022 gubernatorial elections and has never openly criticised the Governor’s leadership, even after his defeat.
There is rising speculation that Governor Natembeya may endorse Wamalwa to take over from him an endorsement that would highly boost Wamalwa’s bid to become Trans Nzoia’s third Governor.
Already, the former hardworking legislator has intensified his visibility across all the five sub-counties of Trans Nzoia.
“It is true that in case Natembeya moves to national politics, the way we see him, it is only Chris who is capable of transforming the county to the next level,” said Derrick Wanami, a Kitale-based newspaper vendor.
Governor Natembeya is increasingly stamping his authority as a key political figure in Western Kenya, a trend seen through his involvement in campaigns for the upcoming November 27, by-elections.
The Governor is leading the United Opposition’s campaigns in Malava Constituency, Kabuchai Ward in Bungoma, and Kisa East Ward in Kakamega.
On Saturday, he led a well attended function in Likuyani Constituency to strengthen his national profile.
On the same day, however, Chris Wamalwa attended several funeral functions within Trans Nzoia, including one in Kinyoro Ward, where he enjoys a robust support.
He urged residents to pray for him and support his 2027 gubernatorial bid.
According to a survey carried out last week, Wamalwa’s popularity has risen, with many of Natembeya’s supporters now backing his bid if the current Governor joins national politics.
Those interviewed cited his impressive development record as a legislator, arguing that he deserves an opportunity to lead the county.
He is widely remembered for improving education standards by constructing modern classrooms in Kiminini, issuing bursaries to less privileged learners, and enhancing security through the establishment of several police stations and residential houses.
“Chris is also generous and articulates issues well,” said Joel Kipruto from Kapsitwet in Kwanza Constituency.
Dr. Wamalwa holds a PhD in Leadership, the highest academic qualification.
He was elected on a Ford-Kenya ticket while serving as Kiminini MP, although his relationship with party leader Moses Wetang’ula has been waning.
