Celebrating a Legend: Peter Mayoyo Shikutwa’s Remarkable Journey.
After an illustrious 35-year career in education, Mr. Peter Mayoyo Shikutwa has officially retired from teaching, leaving behind a legacy that will be remembered for generations.
A dedicated Swahili teacher and lecturer, Mr. Mayoyo’s life has been deeply intertwined with sports. His journey began as a footballer, extended to hockey, refereeing, and eventually blossomed into one of the most successful coaching careers in Kenyan school sports. Born in Eregi, Kakamega County, and raised in Kitale town, he has lived, mentored, and inspired countless young athletes through school games.
Fondly known as “The Big Machine,”Mr. Mayoyo stands today as the most successful living high school football coach, following the late legendary Kakamega School coach Chris Makhokha. His trophy cabinet speaks volumes:
6 KSSSA Under-19 titles with Mombasa High School
2 KSSSA Under-19 titles with St. Anthony’s Boys
2 KSSSA Under-16 titles with St. Anthony’s Boys
1 AFCON Under-16 title with St. Anthony’s Boys
Beyond football, his impact as a games teacher at St. Anthony’s Boys School was immense, leading the school to numerous hockey championships at county, national, and FEASSA levels.
On the national stage, Mr. Mayoyo was entrusted with the Kenya Under-16 team, guiding them to the Copa Coca-Cola Championship in Durban, South Africa, and later to the ISF World Championship in China.
In 2023 he was appointed as the Kenya un18 assistant coach in the cecafa un18 championship held in Kisumu.
His influence has opened doors for many young players, helping them transition from high school football to the top tier of Kenyan football and even securing opportunities in Europe.
In recognition of his unmatched experience and leadership, St. Anthony’s Boys Senior Principal, Mr. Simon Masibo, appointed him as the school’s Head Coach. Mr. Mayoyo is now tasked with steering the team back to national glory after two years away from the national stage.
As he steps into retirement, we celebrate not just a coach, but a mentor, a builder of character, and a pillar of Kenyan school sports. We wish Mr. Peter Shikutwa Mayoyo “The Big Machine” a happy and fulfilling retirement, and we commend St. Anthony’s Boys School, Kitale, for continuing to shape young boys into disciplined athletes and responsible members of society.
Thank you for the memories. Thank you for the legacy.
