The Talanta Stadium project, on course for completion, is spearheaded by the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports and supervised by the Kenya Defence Forces, reaffirming the government's commitment to identifying, nurturing and monetizing the talents of young people, especially in sports.
Ground-breaking for this iconic facility was presided over by H.E. President William Samoei Ruto in March 2024, marking the beginning of a landmark venture that is set to redefine Kenya's sporting and cultural landscape.
The facility will be the second colossal sports infrastructure to be built since the Moi International Sports Centre - Kasarani, which was completed in 1987. 38 years ago.
With a 60,000-spectator capacity, the stadium boasts an ultra-modern design that includes a computerized hydraulic tension cable lifting roof, an engineering feat found in only four stadiums worldwide. Kenya will become the fifth nation globally to host this rare innovation, underlining the country's growing ambition on the international stage.
Designed to meet international standards as stipulated by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Talanta Stadium will be a premier venue for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
It features seven changing rooms, VIP lounges, modern locker rooms, advanced media centers, VAR booths and goal-line technology, making it fully suited for high-profile matches and seamless live broadcasts.
Currently, steel works for the facade and extensive drainage installations are underway, ensuring both functionality and structural sustainability.
The stadium, upon completion, is envisioned as a dynamic hub for community engagement. It will host concerts, cultural festivals, exhibitions and national celebrations, fostering social cohesion and offering a versatile platform for creativity.
Importantly, its construction has created thousands of jobs, especially for youth and women, contributing directly to the economy and empowering households.
