Kiunga Health Centre: A Beacon of Hope for Maternal Healthcare!
In a move signaling significant advancements in healthcare for the local community, Deputy Governor and CECM Health Dr Mbarak Salim visited the Kiunga Health Centre today to inspect the ongoing projects that promise to revolutionize medical services in the area.
During the visit, Dr Mbarak expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far.
“The Radiology Unit is 90% complete, while the Operating Theatre is at 60%,” he announced proudly. “We are determined to operationalize these two crucial projects before March 2026.” Said the DG
Locals have long awaited the establishment of these facilities, with many expressing their gratitude and eagerness for improved healthcare services.
“I have seen friends and family travel for hours just to access basic healthcare services,” shared Aisha, a local resident in Kiunga who is currently pregnant.
“The idea that we will soon have an operating theatre here means so much to us. It’s a game changer for pregnant mothers, especially those needing a C-section.” She added,
“The long journey to King Fahd Hospital is painful, and we often worry about the health of our babies during the trip.”
Speaking on the support and collaboration with local organizations, the Deputy Governor revealed the exciting prospect of partnering with the Kenya Red Cross to build a brand new Female Ward & New Born Unit at the health center.
“This partnership is a testament to our commitment to improving maternal and neonatal outcomes,” he said.
Mr. Abdulhakim Abdu, the Kenya Red Cross Lamu Branch Coordinator who accompanied The deputy Governor, echoed this sentiment.
“It’s crucial that we come together as a community to enhance healthcare accessibility. The new wards will provide a safe and welcoming environment for mothers and their newborns,” he stated.
The visit also highlighted the determination of the county government and partners to make strides in healthcare, as community members eagerly anticipate the benefits of these developments.
As Kiunga Health Centre moves closer to completing these transformative projects, the community remains hopeful, knowing that soon they will no longer face long journeys for critical health services.
