🌟 HISTORIC MOMENT FOR TURKANA 🌟

Today marks a monumental day in Kenya's democratic journey as Dr. Erastus Edung Ethekon from Turkana East (Morulem) has officially been sworn in as the Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Though his appointment was done some months ago, it faced a storm of petitions and resistance from some quarters questioning how a son of the Turkana community — a people wrongly stereotyped as bushmen — could lead such a prestigious national institution. But today, history has spoken. Justice has prevailed. The voice of the marginalized has been elevated.

Dr. Ethekon’s journey is not just a personal achievement but a loud statement of hope, equality, and representation for all communities — especially those from historically marginalized regions like Turkana. His swearing-in today, following gazettement yesterday, confirms that merit, integrity, and leadership have no tribe or geography.

Let this moment inspire every young boy and girl from Turkana and beyond — you too can lead this nation!

Today, I had the privilege of holding a productive consultative meeting with our dedicated kokoto and hardcore miners, loaders, Truck owner and buyers. The focus of our discussion was on how we can eliminate the middlemen and exploitative cartels that have long stood between our miners and fair market prices.

We agreed that forming and strengthening cooperatives is the surest way for miners to access direct markets and better prices for their products. Through cooperatives, our miners will be able to: ✅ Negotiate better deals with genuine buyers
✅ Access financial support and equipment
✅ Operate in a more organized, empowered, and profitable manner

By working together, we are setting the stage for a more transparent, fair, and prosperous mining sector in our region. Let’s continue building a value chain that benefits the real hands behind the minerals—our hardworking local miners.
