*Police Oversight Authority trains CSOs in Turkana, emphasize need for partnership*
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Turkana have benefitted from a two-day training on peace relations and human rights jointly offered by Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) and Kenya Human Rights Commission (KNHRC).
Anastasia Musyoka explained that the training was meant to equip the CSOs with skills for detecting human rights violation and the pathway for reporting the same through provision of preliminary reports to warrant further investigations.
The training was offered under the theme "Choose peace, live a prosperous and dignified life." with emphasis on the need for partnership in checking human rights violations.
Anastasia added that the training was intentionally structured to allow for community engagement on peace relations and detection of conflict triggers witj a view of instituting corrective interventions.
During the training and the subsequent community engagement John Ekutan of DRC emphasized the need for cooperation between the police, CSOs, human rights Commission and IPOA as players in the peace building sector.
John Ekutan added that segments of the community suffered differently from conflict triggers hence variation of human rights interventions required to address the unique cases of each individual.
Simon Sombol of IPOA divulged that Kenya had a raft of legal tools including cap 244 on the standard of detention and borstal facilities aimed at ensuring that the police were accountable and responsive to the population they serve.
