Being one myself I always looked up to so many writers growing up. Having being introduced to a great reading culture before my teenage years greatly contributed to me loving literature. I started to explore writing as a hobby and ended up molding it into finding my voice and nurtured it into making it a profession. So today when I look at young writers, I see myself in them. I see the beginning of my dream and how long the journey has been, the process, the growth and most importantly the love for the art.
I was first introduced to Courage Kyalo’s work late last year when I had the opportunity to work on her first book as an editor. It was mind blowing to see a young girl walking in these shoes. It dawned on me that the future of African literature as in safe hands. As I dived into the pages of her book, I recalled reading pace setters and the works of great female African authors like Grace Ogot and Magret Ogolla I somehow felt that she was heading towards the same direction.
I saw greatness in her drive, in her ambition. In her decision to chase her dreams in her teenage years and actually completing her first novel “In the trial of destiny”. This novel tells the story of a young girl who is forced to drop out of school due to lack of school fees after her aunt who was seeing her through school loses her job. So, she has to go back to the village to stay with her parents who were not in a position to see her through school.
Being just at home with nothing to do other than chores she ends up meeting someone who was well around her age while building castles in the air that having a relationship with this guy from a well-off family will change her life. Shock on her when she got pregnant and was left on her own. Her parents send her back to her aunt’s place disappointed by her after she decides to keep the baby. This is when things take a turn and she decides to rewrite her fate.
The best part of it is she Courage told a story many African girls are living. A tale of teenage pregnancies. She gave a story of hope. She tells every young girl who’s lived through it that it doesn’t end there. That their life continues, that they can still dream beyond that. While the world is nurturing different kinds of writers, I feel great that Courage will grow to be a great African voice to the African girl.

With her first book touching very close to home I can’t wait to see more of her work and I know she’ll definitely inspire a great generation of authors that come after her. It’s safe to say the future of African literature lies in great hands we are nurturing young strong and powerful female voices.

A generation of immorality
By; poetess LYNE ❤️

The world 🌍 is crying 😭
And the pillars are staggering
Soon the corners will fall
Despite the fact that they are tall
People woke up and escape scenes are weak

I saw them at midnight
With their lamps light
Across the streets
Selling and buying their cheap natural products
Guess what a hell?? Their words almost choked me

They have made it weak
The so called beautiful creatures
They sell their pleasures
For just a penny
The world is ailing
Who will heal it???

Look at their dress
They openly walk naked
To them they have no stress
But the elders are griefing
I hear the elderly say "the fallen generation"

Fathers and mothers
Kindly prevent the fall
I know you can, to equip the matters
Teach them morals as much as you can
Provide the necessities , to prevent them hawking.
