Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jnr has officially launched the upgrading of the 15-kilometre Mukuyuni–Kithungo Road, a major infrastructure project expected to improve transport connectivity, ease movement of goods and people, and stimulate economic growth across Kaiti and Mbooni sub-counties.
The KSh13.6 million road improvement project will connect residents of Ukia Ward and Kithungo/Kitundu Ward, providing a reliable transport corridor that has long been affected by poor road conditions, especially during rainy seasons.
The project is being implemented through a partnership between the County Government of Makueni and the (NYS), with additional civil engineering works being undertaken by .
Under the arrangement, NYS will carry out road opening, bush clearing, and heavy grading works under a KSh3.75 million contract. Megastride Limited will execute the remaining civil works valued at KSh9.88 million, including gravelling, culvert installation, drainage enhancement, construction of masonry drifts, gabion protection structures, and water-harvesting interventions designed to improve the road's resilience against flooding and erosion.
Speaking during the launch, Governor Mutula said the project forms part of the county government's broader strategy to expand and modernize rural infrastructure, noting that improved road networks are critical for accelerating socio-economic development in rural communities.
He observed that the upgraded road will provide easier access to markets for farmers and traders, improve access to schools and healthcare facilities, reduce travel time, and lower transport costs for motorists and residents who rely on the route for daily activities.
The Governor further emphasized that investing in road infrastructure remains a key priority for his administration, as it directly contributes to increased economic productivity, improved service delivery, and enhanced mobility across the county.
Once completed, the road is expected to offer year-round accessibility, minimize disruptions caused by seasonal rains, and strengthen links between communities in Kaiti and Mbooni, creating new opportunities for trade and development.
The Mukuyuni–Kithungo Road upgrade is scheduled for completion in October 2026, marking another milestone in Makueni County's ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and promote inclusive development across its wards. ゚viralシ
