Popular Gota City and Arbantone singer Stoopid Boy has reportedly taken his own life, leaving fans, friends and his family devastated.
What makes this loss even more painful is the journey he had been through. Stoopid Boy openly struggled with alcohol and substance abuse, and at one point admitted that he desperately wanted to stop drinking but was finding it difficult to overcome the addiction.
His struggles became so public that Oga Obinna stepped in to help. In 2025, Obinna, together with Dr Castro, King Pheezle and other well-wishers, helped Stoopid Boy get into a rehabilitation programme. For a moment, it seemed like he was finally getting another chance at life.
He went to rehab determined to change. He talked about wanting to become sober, rebuild his life, take care of his children and get his music career back on track.
But life after rehab was not easy.
Stoopid Boy later spoke openly about feeling isolated, depressed and struggling to adjust after returning to his old environment. He also talked about the promises he felt had not been fulfilled and how difficult the transition had become.
And now, he is gone.
Even more heartbreaking is the pain his family has been facing. He had only recently mourned the death of his brother, and now another child has been lost.
Behind the music, the viral videos and the laughter was a human being who was fighting battles that many people could not see.
Maybe his story should remind us that addiction is not simply about someone choosing to drink or use substances. Sometimes there is a much deeper struggle underneath, and people need genuine support long before they reach breaking point.
To his mother and the entire family, may God give you strength to survive this unimaginable pain.
