: EX-KDF OFFICER OSOI CHARGED WITH FELONY PREPARATION & FIREARM OFFENSES LINKED TO FBI MOVEMENT
Patrick Nyambaka Osoi, a former Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer and US Army veteran, was arraigned at Kahawa Law Courts on July 30, 2025, following his arrest the previous night.
Authorities have charged him with preparation to commit a felony, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition without a valid certificate.
Osoi is the founder of the Fighting Brutality and Impunity (FBI) movement, which seeks to challenge police misconduct and support officers who defy unlawful orders.
His arrest has sparked public debate, especially after he announced his intention to run for president in 2027 under the FBI banner.
Investigators allege that Osoi conspired with other former and active officers to recruit security personnel into the movement, raising concerns about national security and potential paramilitary mobilization.
He remains in custody at Muthaiga Police Station as investigations continue.

: NACADA DENIES ALCOHOL BAN ALLEGATIONS, SAYS PROPOSALS ARE NOT LAW
The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has dismissed claims that it has banned alcohol sales or advertising in Kenya.
In a statement issued on July 30, NACADA clarified that the measures circulating online, such as restrictions on online sales, home deliveries, and celebrity endorsements, are policy proposals, not enforceable laws.
These recommendations are part of the newly launched National Policy for the Prevention, Management, and Control of Alcohol, Drugs, and Substance Abuse (2025).
NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa emphasized that no bans have been introduced, and the proposals are intended to guide future legal and regulatory reforms.
The clarification comes amid public confusion and backlash over perceived restrictions on alcohol access and advertising.

: STATE UNMASKS SH17.3M FOREIGN JOB SCAMS ACROSS 15 COUNTIES
The Kenyan government has exposed a sprawling foreign job scam network that defrauded victims of over Sh17.3 million across 15 counties.
At least 84 complaints have been filed against rogue agents who posed as overseas recruiters, promising jobs in Canada, Qatar, Germany, and Australia.
Labour CS Alfred Mutua confirmed that 62 travel agencies are under investigation, with some suspects accused of withholding passports and vanishing after collecting fees.
A Multi-Agency Taskforce has been formed to fast-track arrests, prosecutions, and asset recovery.
Victims are urged to report with documentation, as the crackdown intensifies to protect Kenyans seeking legal employment abroad.

: RUTO ASSENTS TO CONFLICT OF INTEREST BILL, EXPANDS WEALTH DISCLOSURE RULES
President William Ruto has signed the Conflict of Interest Bill, 2025 into law, repealing the Public Officer Ethics Act and introducing sweeping reforms to curb unethical conduct in public service.
The law broadens the definition of “relative” to include individuals with whom public officers have personal or emotional affinity, aiming to block indirect influence and proxy corruption.
It mandates biennial wealth declarations for senior officials, including MCAs, judges, and the Chief Justice, covering assets, liabilities, and income of spouses and dependents.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) now has expanded powers to investigate, enforce compliance, and initiate forfeiture proceedings for unexplained wealth.

: MPOX CASE CONFIRMED IN NEWBORN AT ELDORET’S MOI TEACHING HOSPITAL
Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has confirmed a case of mpox in a newborn, marking a rare and concerning development in Kenya’s public health landscape.
The hospital has urged all medical personnel to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to infection prevention protocols to curb potential spread.
Mpox, a viral disease known for causing skin lesions, fever, and swollen lymph nodes, is typically transmitted through close contact.
While cases in adults have been sporadically reported across Africa, infection in newborns is extremely rare and raises concerns about maternal transmission or exposure during delivery.
Hospital officials have not disclosed further details about the infant’s condition but emphasized that containment measures are in place, and contact tracing is underway.
The Ministry of Health is expected to issue a national advisory as investigations continue.

The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has proposed sweeping reforms aimed at curbing alcohol abuse, particularly among youth.
The agency is calling on the government to ban online alcohol sales, home deliveries, and discount promotions, citing their role in glamorizing drinking and increasing accessibility.
Under the new policy framework, NACADA also seeks to prohibit the use of social media influencers, celebrities, and sports personalities in alcohol advertising.

: 5 ADJOURNMENTS & COUNTING: TUNDU LISSU’S TREASON CASE STALLS IN LOWER COURT
Since his arrest on 9 April 2025, opposition leader Tundu Lissu has faced five consecutive adjournments in his treason case.
The delays, initially tied to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and now to a pending High Court ruling on witness protection, have kept the case from moving forward.
On 16 July, Principal Magistrate Franco Kiswaga set the next hearing for 30 July, stating that the Kisutu court could not proceed until the High Court ruled on whether prosecution witnesses could testify behind partitions.
In today’s session, that position was reaffirmed, and the case was adjourned to 13 August 2025, when the court is expected to issue key decisions regarding the transfer of the case to the High Court.
Lissu, who has now spent 112 days in remand, has consistently argued that the delays are politically motivated and violate his right to a fair and timely trial

: 65-YEAR-OLD BUNGOMA MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR DEFILING MINOR, INFECTING HER WITH HIV
A 65-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Sirisia court in Bungoma County after being found guilty of defiling a 13-year-old girl and knowingly infecting her with HIV.
The convict, Onanda Naibei, hails from Kapkateny in Mt. Elgon constituency.
Delivering the verdict on July 29, 2025, Magistrate Raymond Langat emphasized that the court reached its decision based on compelling evidence that Naibei had violated the rights of the child in a manner deemed both cruel and irreversible.
The prosecution proved that the accused was aware of his HIV-positive status at the time of the assault.
The victim is currently receiving medical and psychological support.
