Insightful Orientation Days

Last Thursday and Friday, 3rd-4th of July, we held an open orientation for cohort 7 classes of Film-training which will commence this month.

This was a time where prospective participants of the course were able to get full insight of the expectations of both T-SHA films and their own. They were able to get answers of some uncertainty and any inquiry from one of our crew members.

Solidarity with Refugees, what does it truly mean and How should it be displayed? Solidarity refers to unity: unity of interest unity of responsibility and an outreach of empathy.

“It’s not just about giving aid, but creating platforms where refugees can be heard….. and understood” - Nirah Ismail, Resilience Action International

Solidarity goes beyond being provided with just necessities. Giving aid without listening to the voice of the refugee population breaches the ‘solidarity with refugees’ statement that is spoken of. How can unity be formed when interests are unknown, how can empathy be felt when the stories are unheard.

Each year, 20 June marks World Refugee Day, the international day to sympathise with those who had no choice but to flee.

The Kakuma refugee camp, established in 1992, was originally built to provide the “Lost Boys of Sudan” with , and today approximately 306,414 people from various countries have found refuge in , Kenya.

Refugee children and families fleeing conflict need safe spaces to learn and grow, UNICEF plays a major role in this fulfilment along side external sponsorships and refugees themselves.

The theme for 2025 is “Solidarity with Refugees,” with the focus being what solidarity really means, not just in words but action. At T-SHA films we have displayed solidarity within our teachings, our collaboration with other (Refugee Led Organisations) and , as well as our film productions.

Together, we can defend our safety and advocate for solutions to our predicament.

T-SHA Films was fortunate to work amongst one of their partners, Inkomoko.

With their moto, “Solutions found here”, Inkomoko Kenya is one of the leading organizations in that uplifts , providing support through entrepreneurship . Due to difficulties for refugees within Kenya to be granted loans, Inkomoko lends with low rates making it possible for refugee to start their venture and for men and women to start/or upgrade their businesses.

T-SHA films was requested to participate in the shooting of one of their projects. Together we captured scenes of entrepreneurs and Business men giving their insight through interviews.

Attribute to Inkomoko; we are thankful for involving us in this filming endeavor.

It was a delight to capture generosity shown to the by GenerationsAid.

Generation aid launched their second successful food and health kits distribution in Kalobeyei Settlement and kakuma Refugee Camp. Offering revived hope with meaningful gestures.

Throughout the 2 days of distribution, each moment was gracefully captured; as Refugees from Ethiopia, Burundi, Afghanistan, Rwanda, Sudan, and the DRC flaunted their joy, as well as the joy it brought the team.

T-SHA films was enraptured by the humanity shown.

Special visitors

Today, we received with open arms, graceful guests , Faulu productions (an NGO based in Kakuma) and Aisha Moura Jaenicke (a ).

The visit was to enquire more about T-SHA Films productions, with intent to exchange viewpoints on film production, specifically the film industry in .

The result being shared ideas on how we can hold hands in showcasing a different angle of to the world. Let’s share what the oppressed have accomplished with the bare minimum.

T-SHA Films provides a space for . Our trainings transform interests into ability and desire into reality.

One of our alumnis, for instance, went from having mere interests in the field of to graduating and moved onto subtle volunteering, then into employment. He is now a member of the skilled technical crew at T-SHA films and a teacher at T-SHA Films’ Film Training Course. Here is his story.

Key William joined the 3rd Cohort of the film training course early 2023. Upon completion, he started volunteering at T-SHAfilms with the task of assisting the students during practical lessons. He then became employed and is working full-time as an educator offering and photoshop, illustrator and lightroom.

Significant Partnership Agreement

Today, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Refugees Changemakers Network ( ) and Talent Shade Films (T-SHA films). The is purposely for producing weekly narrative series of stories in and . Participants will be from a wide scope of sectors (different occupations). With the focus of individualizing each partaking individual, every story will be noteworthy.

We aim to provide a platform for refugee changemakers to share their experiences, achievements, and perspectives. You are not the population but you make up the population, Your story matters.
