I have just watched a video of our very own son, activist Mulinge Muteti, disrupting Kibeta Law Court during the murder case proceedings of Albert Ojwang. As a Kamba, I honestly feel ashamed.

What kind of nonsense is this? Stupidity is not activism, this is total madness. Yaani Wakamba mkipewa chance mnachoma!

Even after being given a chance to apologize, he doesn’t know how to apologize. But when it comes to shouting, on that he is excellent!

This is the so‑called activist, doing “activism” while clearly drunk. Utter disgrace to the Kamba community. Shame!

Earlier today I shared a post about Kibra affordable housing. One of my brilliant followers, John M Mwelenga, raised a point in the comments that I believe deserves serious attention. I promised to discuss it, and here we are.

John rightly argued that people don’t live in slums because Nairobi lacks houses; they live there because that’s what they can afford. And I completely agree. Let me break it down.

Nairobi has houses for every pocket. Whether you earn little or much, there is always a house that matches your budget. In fact, rent in Nairobi goes for as low as 500 shillings. That means slum dwellers are NOT there because there are NO decent houses, they are there because that is what they can manage.

Now, look at this so-called “affordable housing.” The cheapest unit goes for Ksh. 3,900 per month. Tell me honestly, can someone who can raise Ksh. 3,900 still be living in a Mabati shack? Absolutely not. For 3,900, you can already find a decent single room in elsewhere. So if they are in the slums, it’s because they can’t even afford that amount.

So let’s stop lying to ourselves. Calling these units “affordable” is a cruel joke. The issue of slums is not about a shortage of decent houses, it’s about affordability. And the root cause of that affordability problem is joblessness.

But instead of addressing joblessness, the Government is pouring billions into houses that will remain empty. Solve the jobs crisis, and the slum problem will solve itself. People will naturally move into better houses, and those Mabati structures will vanish because No one will want them anymore.

That’s the truth.
