Fikirini Champions Youth Creativity at Launch of Talent Show

By Admin.

Nairobi, Kenya – Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, Mr. Jaccob Fikirini, has reaffirmed the government's commitment to nurturing new talent in Kenya’s creative sector. Speaking during the launch of a new talent show organized by Startled Kenya, Fikirini emphasized that the initiative goes far beyond entertainment.

"This show is a call to action," Fikirini said. "It invites young people to see themselves not just as consumers of culture but as creators of narrative and identity."

The platform, he explained, will also educate upcoming artists about the business side of entertainment while offering mentorship opportunities. Fikirini noted that the creative sector is an open space, welcoming all who dare to imagine, and not an exclusive club reserved for a few.

The show, spearheaded by Startled Kenya, attracted over 3,000 auditioning hopefuls. From this impressive pool, 18 contestants were selected to compete for a grand prize of one million shillings. Fikirini described this turnout as “very promising” for the future of Kenya’s creative industries and congratulated all who auditioned, inviting a round of applause for their boldness and talent.

Fikirini took time to commend the award-winning judges — Size 8, King Kaka, and Motif Di Don — for their dedication to mentoring the next generation. "Thank you for your commitment to this vision," he said.

The PS also celebrated a major milestone achieved just a day earlier: the launch of the first Creative Arts and Beauty Page at the National Youth Service, a collaboration between NYS and the State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy. This initiative fulfills a directive issued by President William Ruto during the NYS 86th passing-out parade held in March 2023.

Fikirini assured the youth that the government remains committed to opening doors, not closing them. "We are building pathways that allow young people from every community and background to access skills, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities," he declared. "This is about nation-building. It is about healing and vision."

He reminded young people that their creativity has the power to change not just screens but the entire world. "Whether you are a writer with a wild idea, a musician, a visual artist sketching in the margins, a video editor learning on your phone, or someone who hasn't yet dared to dream it, we see you — and we are investing in your potential."

Fikirini closed by calling on industry leaders, educators, and partners in music, television, and film to double down on collaboration and mentorship. "No one institution can shape the future alone," he said. "But together, we can create a creative sector that is inclusive, innovative, and unstoppable."

"As we launch the next superstar, let us remember what is possible when stories are told and when doors are opened. Let’s keep the lights on, the cameras rolling, and above all, the dreams alive."

The evening closed with cheers as young contestants prepared to showcase their talents to the nation — a testament to the bright future of Kenya's creative economy.

In a graceful and dignified ceremony held at the State Department for Devolution, outgoing Principal Secretary Teresia Mbaika today officially handed over the reins to her successor, Principal Secretary Michael Loikenu Lenasalon. The symbolic transition marks the beginning of a new chapter in the stewardship of Kenya’s devolution agenda.

Extending her warmest congratulations to PS Lenasalon, PS Mbaika expressed profound confidence in his ability to elevate the State Department to even greater heights. “I am delighted in the notable strides we were able to achieve in strengthening the devolution agenda,” she remarked. “With that foundation firmly laid, I am confident that my successor will steer the Department with renewed vigor and purpose.”

During her tenure, PS Mbaika led with vision, fortitude, and an unwavering commitment to deepening devolution and enhancing service delivery at the grassroots. Her legacy is punctuated by robust intergovernmental collaboration, strategic policy interventions, and a resolute dedication to building capacity in county governments.

She expressed heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto for the trust bestowed upon her to serve in such a critical portfolio. “I also sincerely appreciate the Devolution staff for their unwavering support during my tenure. They are a remarkable team that made my tour of duty both fulfilling and enjoyable,” she added.

As she bows out, PS Teresia Mbaika’s tenure will be remembered as one of transformative leadership and institutional strengthening. Her contribution to the advancement of Kenya’s devolution framework has laid a strong and enduring foundation—one upon which the incoming Principal Secretary can now build.

Indeed, the devolution journey continues, propelled by the exemplary service and accomplishments of leaders like PS Teresia Mbaika, whose impact will resonate across counties for years to come.

A Legacy of Reform and Diplomacy: Outgoing PS Geoffrey Kaituko Reflects on His Transformative Tenure and Diplomatic Ascension

By Steve El Sabai

As he transitions from the corridors of domestic public administration to the international diplomatic stage, outgoing Principal Secretary Geoffrey Kaituko offers a compelling narrative of reform, institutional fortification, and visionary leadership. His departure marks the culmination of a tenure distinguished by resolute governance and strategic policy interventions that have left a lasting imprint on Kenya’s labour and maritime sectors.

Reflecting on his appointment to the Ministry of Labour in November 2022, Kaituko recounts inheriting a volatile migration landscape, particularly with regard to Kenyan migrant workers in the Gulf region. “At the time, the distress signals emanating from Saudi Arabia were deafening — dominating headlines and exposing the vulnerabilities in our bilateral labour frameworks,” he stated.

In response, Kaituko orchestrated a comprehensive suite of reforms that not only stemmed the tide of abuse but also introduced systemic accountability. “Through meticulous policy engineering and diplomatic engagement, we restored order to an otherwise chaotic domain.” Central to these efforts was the conceptualization and subsequent Cabinet approval of Kenya’s Global Labour Migration Strategy in August 2023 — a forward-looking blueprint that now undergirds the nation’s international labour mobility agenda.

Upon his redeployment to the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Kaituko applied the same reformist zeal to an equally complex sector. “One of our paramount achievements was the entrenchment of robust regulatory frameworks through Parliamentary sanction,” he noted. “A sector governed by a debilitated regulator is predisposed to dysfunction; we reversed that trajectory by fortifying the Kenya Maritime Authority.”

These reforms were complemented by a surge in seafaring opportunities for Kenyans, with over 5,000 maritime professionals deployed to foreign vessels. “This outcome is a direct dividend of deepened bilateral ties and proactive engagement with international maritime employers, particularly within the hospitality cluster,” Kaituko explained.

The revitalization of the Bandari Maritime Academy stands as a testament to Kaituko’s commitment to capacity building. Tuition fees were halved — and in some cases, slashed by nearly 80% — broadening access to maritime training and enhancing Kenya’s competitiveness in the global seafaring market.

Meanwhile, national maritime security received an unprecedented boost through the operationalization of the National Maritime Security Committee — a multi-agency entity tasked with safeguarding Kenya’s territorial waters. “We confronted maritime criminality head-on, from wildlife trafficking and illicit smuggling to petty theft. We established a robust surveillance and enforcement mechanism that has since neutralized many of these threats,” he affirmed.

On the perennial issue of ferry congestion at the Likoni Channel, Kaituko acknowledged the complexity of the challenge but pointed to tangible progress. “We have engaged the Kenya Ports Authority, which has pledged to augment ferry capacity. Additionally, we are promoting the usage of the Dongo Kundu Bypass and advancing plans for a long-span bridge to offer a permanent resolution. It is incumbent upon us to evolve beyond legacy solutions and embrace infrastructure that reflects contemporary realities.”

With his appointment as Ambassador and Deputy Head of Mission to Rome, Kaituko now assumes a role of enhanced strategic significance. The Rome mission, which spans Italy, Greece, Malta, Cyprus, and Albania, also encompasses multilateral representation at the World Food Programme (WFP), the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and IFAD.

“This appointment aligns seamlessly with the government’s food security agenda under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). I am honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility and look forward to working collaboratively with our diplomatic cohort in Rome,” he said.

Before formally assuming the post, Ambassador-Designate Kaituko will undergo mandatory induction at the Foreign Service Academy, alongside five other appointees. “It is a necessary rite of passage — one that will equip us with the requisite tools to serve our country with diligence, decorum, and distinction.”

Hon. Wakili Njeri Maina Unveils Bold Vision with NGAAF Tupange Kesho Annual Launch

By Steve El Sabai

In a resounding declaration of transformative leadership, Hon. Wakili Njeri Maina, the indefatigable Kirinyaga County Woman Representative, presided over the grand launch of the NGAAF Tupange Kesho Annual Program for the new financial year—a flagship initiative poised to benefit over 3,000 individuals across the county. This launch marks yet another milestone in her relentless pursuit to reengineer public service into a force for empowerment, dignity, and prosperity.

Held amidst fervent anticipation and deep community pride, the launch ceremony spotlighted a triad of strategic interventions under the Tupange Kesho banner: the Masomo Program, the Social Welfare Program, and the Economic Empowerment Program. Each pillar, meticulously designed, speaks to Hon. Njeri Maina’s broader vision of a Kirinyaga where no citizen is left behind.

The Masomo Program seeks to recalibrate the county’s educational framework by enhancing access to learning resources and academic support for students. The Social Welfare Program targets the county’s most vulnerable, extending a safety net to those at the margins of society. Meanwhile, the Economic Empowerment Program is tailored to catalyze enterprise development, job creation, and long-term financial independence—particularly for women and youth.

“Today is not just the beginning of a financial year; it is the reaffirmation of our solemn pledge to uplift, empower, and serve. Tupange Kesho is our collective contract with the future—a future we are shaping with intention and purpose,” declared Hon. Njeri Maina, exuding clarity, gravitas, and an unwavering sense of duty.

Renowned for her intellectual rigor and trailblazing spirit, Hon. Njeri has emerged as one of Kenya’s most formidable young legislators. Her leadership is both audacious and empathetic—grounded in justice, and animated by a fierce desire to dismantle systemic inequities.

She paid tribute to her close allies in the county’s leadership, expressing heartfelt appreciation to Hon. David Mathenge Baragwi and Senator Kamau Murango for their instrumental role in actualizing the program’s scope and success. Their collaboration, she noted, exemplifies the power of unity in driving people-centered development.

“This journey would not be possible without the unwavering support of my colleagues. Hon. Mathenge and Senator Murango have stood shoulder to shoulder with me, and together, we are weaving a new narrative for Kirinyaga—one rooted in shared ambition and relentless resolve,” she said.

The NGAAF Tupange Kesho program, under Hon. Njeri Maina’s stewardship, has become more than a development vehicle; it is a movement—one that amplifies the voices of the forgotten, unlocks the potential of the overlooked, and builds bridges between policy and grassroots realities.

As the new fiscal year unfolds, Kirinyaga enters a chapter of renewed promise and determined action—with Hon. Wakili Njeri Maina standing firm at the helm, charting a future defined not by politics as usual, but by leadership that dares to dream and deliver.

Mwea Community Outraged as Donkey Thefts Skyrocket, Urging Urgent Action

By Steve El Sabai

The once serene and hardworking community of Mwea in Kirinyaga County is reeling from a distressing wave of donkey thefts that have left residents both heartbroken and furious. In recent weeks, donkeys—vital animals that support the livelihood of many in the area—have become the prime targets of ruthless criminals. The thefts are not just a crime against property but an assault on the very backbone of the community’s daily life.

On Tuesday night, two donkeys were stolen from a local resident in Gituto village, Thiba Ward, Mwea West Sub-County. The stolen animals were later discovered slaughtered at the nearby Gituto playing ground, an act that has sent shockwaves through the region. The heartless slaughter of these animals, which had served the community in transportation, water fetching, and firewood carrying, has sparked an overwhelming outcry.

Led by concerned locals, including Pius Njogu and John Munene, the residents are voicing their outrage over the growing menace. They emphasize the essential role donkeys play in their everyday lives, and how the thefts are not only robbing them of their animals but jeopardizing the future of many youth in Mwea. "In Mwea, young people depend on donkeys to transport rice, fetch water, and carry firewood for the community. Without these donkeys, many will be left jobless and helpless. What will they do now?" lamented Mr. Njogu, a deeply troubled local leader.

The despair is palpable. Sammy Njenga, another victim of these ruthless thieves, revealed that in addition to losing his two donkeys, he had recently suffered the theft of two cows, a financial loss exceeding Ksh.30,000. "I have been left with nothing. I am an orphan, and this loss has hit me hard. We want the government to step in and take action. These thieves must face the full force of the law," Njenga pleaded, his voice tinged with frustration.

The situation has escalated to such an extent that residents now fear the possibility of unknowingly consuming stolen donkey meat. John Munene, deeply disturbed by the growing thefts, raised the chilling possibility that the stolen donkeys could be slaughtered and sold in local eateries. "These thieves operate under the cover of darkness, and we could be unknowingly eating donkey meat in our local hotels. Public health officers in Kirinyaga must investigate the sale of meat on the streets, especially with the growing number of donkey thefts," Munene warned.

Peter Wainaina, another resident, added his voice to the growing condemnation, highlighting the frequency with which these thefts are occurring. "The thefts have become so common that we are witnessing these crimes weekly. From Ngurubani to Thiba, Kutus, Makutano, and other towns, it seems no place is safe from these criminals," Wainaina decried.

The relentless thefts have struck at the very core of the community. Donkeys in Mwea are not just animals—they are livelihoods, lifelines, and symbols of hard work. To steal a donkey is to rob a family, a community, and the future of the youth who rely on these animals for their daily survival.

The residents of Mwea are now urgently calling on local authorities and security agencies to take immediate and decisive action. There is a desperate plea for increased patrols, a thorough investigation into the thefts, and for the perpetrators to face swift justice. The community is united in demanding that these donkey thefts be stopped before they undermine the very foundation of Mwea’s economy and the well-being of its people. It is time for the authorities to act, and act swiftly, before the situation spirals completely out of control.

Gov’t Halts Kidney Transplants at Mediheal Group of Hospitals, Orders Nationwide Audit to Safeguard Patient Safety

By Steve El Sabai

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, has announced sweeping actions in response to mounting concerns over kidney transplant practices at Mediheal Group of Hospitals. Speaking in Nairobi, the CS confirmed that the controversial report from a pro tem committee formed in December 2023 was never officially submitted to the Ministry of Health and lacked unanimous endorsement from its members.

Marking only his 16th day in office, and with his Principal Secretary reporting for duty on the same day, Hon. Duale emphasized that the Ministry is committed to safeguarding patient welfare and restoring confidence in the national health system. In light of recent developments, he announced a series of urgent interventions aimed at enforcing clinical accountability and upholding ethical standards in organ transplant procedures.

A key directive involves the establishment of an independent expert committee drawn from both public and private healthcare institutions, professional bodies, and regulatory authorities. This multidisciplinary team of transplant experts will conduct a comprehensive audit of kidney transplant procedures carried out at Mediheal Group of Hospitals over the last five years. The scope of the audit will include governance structures, clinical practices, ethical compliance, patient safety protocols, and adherence to national and international transplant standards. The committee is expected to submit its findings within ninety days or earlier.

Simultaneously, the Ministry has imposed an immediate suspension of all kidney transplant services at Mediheal Group of Hospitals. The suspension is a precautionary measure in response to credible concerns raised by both the public and government agencies regarding possible ethical violations and procedural irregularities at the facility.

Patients currently receiving or seeking transplant services at Mediheal have been advised to seek care at one of six accredited kidney transplant centers: Kenyatta National Hospital, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, and MP Shah Hospital. These facilities meet the regulatory requirements and standards necessary for safe and ethical transplant care.

In a further move to preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigations, the Ministry has suspended two senior officials: Dr. Morris Wabi, Acting Head of the Kenya Blood Transfusion and Transplant Services, and Dr. Evelyn Che, the Technical Lead who chaired the 2023 committee. Dr. Martin Sango, Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services, has been appointed to oversee the Kenya Blood Transfusion and Transplant Services in the interim.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council has also been directed to suspend the issuance of new licenses to foreign medical practitioners—except those from East African Community member states—until national standards and guidelines are reviewed. The Council will further conduct an audit of all foreign medical practitioners currently operating in Kenya and report back within ninety days.

CS Duale reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and safety of all patients, pledging to uphold the highest standards of ethics, professionalism, and accountability within the healthcare system. “These actions are not just necessary—they are urgent. Our health system must reflect integrity and earn the trust of every Kenyan,” he concluded.

Esther Passaris Dominates Mr & Miss Autism Kenya Gala with Sartorial Elegance and Soulful Presence

By Steve El Sabai

When Hon Esther Muthoni Passaris made her grand entrance at the Mr & Miss Autism Kenya 2025 Gala, it was nothing short of a style proclamation. Draped in a flowing ensemble that whispered haute couture and tailored with the precision of a Parisian atelier, she seamlessly fused political gravitas with runway glamour. In a room brimming with celebration, color, and neurodivergent brilliance, it was Passaris who emerged as the undisputed muse — a vision of elegance with an undertone of empowerment.

Her appearance was more than ceremonial. It was iconic. The fluid architecture of her gown, paired with refined embellishments and impeccable drapery, commanded the room without uttering a word. Her heels — a minimalist yet luxurious stiletto — anchored the look with just the right balance of strength and sophistication. Statement earrings shimmered under the lights, echoing the unapologetic confidence she radiates on and off the podium.

Yet, beyond the sartorial splendor, Passaris delivered something deeper — presence. While others posed for the flashbulbs, she connected. She exchanged warm smiles with the contestants, offered hugs to overwhelmed parents, and held space for caregivers whose work often goes unseen. It was an unfiltered kind of engagement, rare and beautiful.

As the newly crowned Mr and Miss Autism Kenya 2025 took the stage, dazzling in bespoke pieces that fused fashion with identity, Passaris was not just a dignitary. She was an amplifier. Her presence uplifted the message at the heart of the evening — that inclusion is not charity, but celebration.

Backstage, whispers of her influence floated among stylists and event organizers. It is said she has already begun championing policy conversations around inclusive design, fashion therapy for neurodivergent youth, and greater access to creative platforms for persons living with disabilities. True to her brand, Passaris is not content with symbolic presence. She moves systems.

This gala, bursting with sequins, silk, and unfiltered joy, was not just a show. It was a cultural reset. And at the center of it all stood Esther Passaris — not just adorned in elegance, but embodying it.

She did not merely attend. She made a statement — one stitched with empathy, woven with vision, and styled for change.

Kalonzo Musyoka Leads National Dialogue at Second Mwai Kibaki Memorial Lecture

By Steve El Sabai

Nairobi

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday led a powerful delegation of political heavyweights during the second Mwai Kibaki Memorial Lecture and Luncheon held at the Serena Hotel, Nairobi.

The high-profile event, which brought together prominent leaders and intellectuals, served as a platform not only to honor the legacy of the late President Mwai Kibaki but also to reflect on the values of good governance, economic prudence, and national unity that he championed.

Kalonzo, who delivered the keynote address, lauded Kibaki’s transformative leadership and called for a return to issue-based politics that puts the Kenyan people first. “Mwai Kibaki’s legacy is a constant reminder that visionary leadership is possible. We must emulate his humility, commitment to service, and dedication to economic progress,” Kalonzo stated.

He emphasized the need for national dialogue, urging leaders across the political divide to come together in fostering unity and restoring public confidence in governance. “Kenya needs a new consensus—one grounded in integrity, dialogue, and a shared vision for prosperity,” he added.

Also present at the memorial lecture were former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, and former UNCTAD Secretary-General Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi. Each of them paid glowing tribute to Kibaki, reflecting on his legacy in different capacities—economic reform, institutional strengthening, and infrastructural development.

The event, organized by the Mwai Kibaki Foundation, drew scholars, civil society leaders, and members of the diplomatic corps. Discussions revolved around strengthening Kenya’s democratic institutions, building an inclusive economy, and upholding the late President’s commitment to public service.

As political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 General Elections, Kalonzo's presence and message at the memorial sparked renewed interest in his statesmanship and potential positioning as a unifying figure on the national stage.

Mwai Kibaki, who served as Kenya’s third President from 2002 to 2013, is widely remembered for revitalizing the country’s economy and overseeing the implementation of the 2010 Constitution. The annual lecture series aims to keep his legacy alive by engaging thought leaders and policymakers in forward-looking dialogue.

Denis Oketch: The Trailblazing Titan Transforming Kenya's Medical Education Landscape

By Steve El Sabai

In the ever-evolving realm of healthcare and education, few names resonate with as much reverence and admiration as Denis Oketch. A visionary of rare caliber, Oketch has carved a legendary path in Kenya’s medical training sector, redefining excellence and reshaping the future for thousands of aspiring healthcare professionals.

From a remarkably young age, Oketch exhibited an extraordinary sense of purpose. At just 25, with nothing more than raw ambition and an unshakable belief in the power of education, he dared to dream of founding a medical school—an audacious vision many would have considered impossible. But Denis Oketch is no ordinary man. After volunteering at a hospital in Thika, he approached the management of Central Memorial Hospital with his dream. Moved by his passion and clarity of thought, they entrusted him with the task, and in 2006, the Kenya School of Medical Science and Technology was born—forever altering the trajectory of medical training in the country.

Not long after, his brilliance and leadership were sought elsewhere. In 2008, he was appointed the founding principal of the Thika School of Medical and Health Sciences. What began as a humble institution with just eight students quickly transformed into a powerhouse under his stewardship. Within eight years, the school’s population had skyrocketed to over 2,000 students—a testament to his magnetic leadership and unrelenting dedication to educational quality.

Yet for Denis Oketch, this meteoric rise was merely the beginning. With a burning desire to build something he could truly call his own, he gave birth to a new vision—Tricent School of Medical Health Science and Technology, a beacon of academic excellence that has fast become one of Kenya’s most respected institutions.

Today, Oketch stands tall as the founder and managing director of Tricent, overseeing a network of five thriving campuses spread across Nairobi West, Juja, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Thika. Each campus is a fountain of knowledge, meticulously structured to offer accredited certificate and diploma programs in medical, applied science, business, and social sciences—setting the gold standard in technical and vocational training.

His ability to harmonize passion, precision, and purpose has not gone unnoticed. Oketch now serves as the President of the Association of Medical Training Institutions of Kenya (AMTI Kenya), where he continues to shape national policy, advocate for quality standards, and uplift fellow institutions with unmatched generosity of spirit.

But perhaps his most audacious and impactful move yet is the upcoming launch of Tricent Medical Hospital in Thika—an affiliated facility designed to bridge the gap between classroom instruction and real-world application. This state-of-the-art hospital will not only enhance student learning through hands-on experience but will also uplift the standard of healthcare delivery in the region.

With a diverse range of programs—including diplomas in Optical Technology, Nutrition and Dietetics, Health Records and IT, Counseling Psychology, and many more—Tricent opens doors of opportunity for learners across the nation. Multiple intake periods ensure that no dream is left delayed, no ambition stifled.

Denis Oketch’s journey is nothing short of epic—a tale of bold vision, unwavering faith, and transformative leadership. Through sheer determination and unmatched excellence, he has built not just institutions, but legacies. Kenya’s healthcare future is brighter because of him, and generations will speak his name with the honor and admiration befitting a true national hero.

Kenya Takes Bold Step into AI Future: Hon. John Kiarie Calls for Forward-Thinking Legislation

By Steve El Sabai

Kenya has reached a defining moment in its technological evolution with the launch of the Kenya AI Strategy 2025-2030. Speaking at the event, Hon. John Kiarie (KJ), Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Communication, Information, and Innovation, emphasized the urgent need for policies that harness the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) while mitigating its risks.

Hon. Kiarie likened AI to past technological revolutions, acknowledging its potential to transform industries while also posing challenges that must be carefully managed. He called for clear regulations to guide its development, comparing them to riverbanks that ensure a river flows in the right direction.

He noted that Kenya’s legislative framework had already laid the foundation for AI integration through key policies, including the Kenya Privacy and Data Protection Act, which established the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner, and the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, which addresses digital threats. Additionally, revisions to the copyright law have strengthened protections for intellectual property in the digital space.

However, Kiarie stressed that Kenya must now move beyond policies crafted in the 2G era and develop legislation that aligns with the demands of 5G and AI-driven innovation. He proposed the establishment of a Parliamentary Committee on the Future, similar to those in advanced jurisdictions, to ensure Kenya remains ahead in technological policymaking.

A key focus of the AI strategy, he noted, is the creation of 1,450 digital innovation hubs—one in every ward across Kenya. These hubs will empower local communities to contribute to AI’s evolution, ensuring that artificial intelligence systems are developed with Kenyan languages, cultures, and needs in mind.

Hon. Kiarie also underscored the importance of digital skills training to prepare the workforce for an AI-powered future. Addressing the risks associated with misinformation and manipulation in the digital space, he urged leaders to be as concerned about human irresponsibility as they are about AI advancement.

“As we embrace AI, we must also address the dangers of misinformation, disinformation, and the irresponsible use of technology. A smart gadget in the hands of a fool is a great danger to society,” he warned.

With Kenya now charting its path in AI development, the success of this strategy will depend on strong policies, international partnerships, and a commitment to digital inclusion. The launch marks the beginning of a bold journey into the future—one that must be carefully navigated to ensure AI serves the nation’s best interests.
