GLOBAL RAMADAN MOON SIGHTING 2026.
WHEN IS RAMADAN 1447? (2026)
OUR PREDICTIONS 🌙
LOCAL UK SIGHTING:
First fast: Thu 19 Feb
MOSQUES WHICH FOLLOW ABROAD:
Follow Saudi: First fast Wed 18 Feb
Follow Morocco: First fast Thu 19 Feb
HOW WE MADE THESE PREDICTIONS
We base these predictions on our experience and using predicted lunar visibility data, presented in these maps. In the end, Allah knows best.
Let’s look at the data.
WEDNESDAY 18 FEBRUARY:
This is 29 Shaban, the moonsighting date in the UK.
The moon is visible across the UK, and much of the world. As such, we hope to see the moon in the UK and fast on Thu 19 Feb. .
Mosques who follow Morocco will also have the same first fast date too iA.
TUESDAY 17 FEBRUARY:
This is the date that Saudi will look for the moon, a day earlier than us.
The moon is scientifically impossible to see anywhere in the Middle East, Europe, Asia, and Africa, with high powered telescopes or optical aids.
In fact, we do not expect the moon to be reliably seen anywhere on earth on Tuesday.
However, the preprinted Saudi Arabian Umm al Qurra calendar, their busines and civic calendar, has Ramadan starting on Wednesday.
We are accustomed to Saudi Arabia making scientifically impossible moonsighting declarations which match their preprinted calendar - so for this reason we are predicting that Saudi will produce another scientifically impossible moonsighting, and start their first fast early.
Mosques in the UK which follow Saudi will follow suit.
There is a slim chance that Saudi will do the scientifically correct thing, and declare that the moon is not seen? This would mean that they'd fast with us, on Thu 18 Feb, iA.
GO OUT AND SIGHT THE MOON THIS WEDNESDAY!
We’ll be going live on FB and YouTube alongside the Royal Observatory Greenwich with reports from sighters across the UK calling into the show. Watch us on Wednesday 18 February from 5:30pm!
You can look for the moon too in your own areas!
Go out after Maghrib on Wednesday, look to the western horizon, and try to sight the Ramadan crescent with family and friends.
We will send out details of public moonsighting locations tomorrow, iA.
Whenever you begin - Ramadan Mubarak!
