A boda boda operator has been killed by criminals who stabbed him to death in Marsabit town.

The 22-year-old was killed by two men who pretended to be customers before turning on him and brutally killing him in Manyatta Ginda area, near the PACIDA offices.

The incident has sparked protests among boda boda operators in Marsabit town.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner Marsabit Central Sub-county , David Saruni said the deceased was killed by two suspects who stabbed the victim in the neck, ribs and back.

The incident occurred at around 10pm on Wednesday night.

It is believed that the criminals intended to steal the motorbike but their plot failed.

Police officers have however launched investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.

Deputy Commissioner Saruni has appealed to the public to remain calm as security agencies continue their search to arrest and take legal action against the perpetrators.

The incident comes several months after another boda boda operator was killed here in Marsabit town by slitting his throat before his motorcycle was stolen in the Marta Arba area in March this year.

In recent days, cases of crime and brutal killings have been reported in different parts of the County where about seven people have been killed in the past few months in separate incidents.

A call has been made to residents and leaders of Marsabit county to maintain peace.

The Marsabit County Peace Leaders Committee has urged citizens to refrain from criminal incidents to make way for lasting peace.

The deputy chairman of peace committee, Adan Chukulisa, has called on all communities in Marsabit to cooperate in combating criminal incidents.

The call came a few days after three people were killed and another injured in Kurkum area, on the border of Maikona and Loiyangalani sub-counties.

The killings were triggered by a dispute over pasture and water between communities living on the border.

In the past few months, about 7 people have been killed in different incidents in various parts of the county, according to Chukulisa.

The deputy chairman of the county peace committee has revealed that they have participated in a meeting with community leaders and security agencies to set peace and security strategies as well as encourage communities to live in peace and harmony.

He has urged pastoralist communities to share limited pasture and water resources together.

Chukulisa has however called on security agencies to investigate and arrest all perpetrators of the crime.

He has called for justice to be served to the affected families.

Hon Chachu Ganya statement on the recent political misinformation.

MARSABIT, Kenya – It has been a profound honor to serve the people of North Horr Constituency as their Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms from (2007 to 2022). I remain deeply grateful to the great people of North Horr for entrusting me with this responsibility.

In 2022, I embraced a new challenge by joining the Marsabit gubernatorial race. After a competitive election involving six candidates, I was humbled to have garnered 28,279 votes, securing the second position. This experience has strengthened my resolve and intensified my commitment to serve.

In the spirit of respect for our democratic process, I, together with my team, conceded defeat in 2022 and pledged co-operation with the new administration while continuing to focus on the 2027 elections.

My dream of leading Marsabit County as governor is firmly on course and with God’s grace, I look forward to realizing it in 2027.

Recently, certain political actors have held public and private meetings and spread political misinformation regarding my 2027 ambition.

I wish to state unequivocally that my political position remains unchanged. I am fully committed to seeking election as the Governor of Marsabit County in 2027 God willing.

Furthermore, I will contest the upcoming gubernatorial election through a party that supports the government of president William Ruto, aligning myself with the vision of our national leadership to bring sustainable development and prosperity to Marsabit.

It is vital that politicians exercise caution in the dissemination of information. Spreading falsehood not only distorts public understanding but also undermines confidence in our democratic institutions.

The claims circulating, propagated by a few disgruntled politicians with unclear motives, are categorically false and should be disregarded.

To my supporters and the wider public, I reaffirm my commitment to political transparency, accountability and genuine service to the people of Marsabit. I encourage everyone to seek information from credible and verified sources, as misinformation distracts us from the critical issues facing our Country and county.

Marsabit County's future is bright and my vision remains clear: to lead with integrity, foster unity, and champion inclusive development that uplifts every community across our great county.

Majaliwa, Niko Debeni 2027.

Signed,
Hon. Chachu Ganya
Gubernatorial Candidate 2027
