🐟 THE COIN IN THE FISH’S MOUTH
(Matthew 17:24–27)
When the collectors of the temple tax approached Peter, they asked a simple question:
👉 “Does your Teacher pay the temple tax?”
Peter quickly answered, “Yes.”
But the real lesson was about to unfold—not just about taxes, but about trust, provision, and divine wisdom.
✨ A Conversation with Deeper Meaning
When Peter entered the house, Jesus spoke first. He asked:
“From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own children or from others?”
Peter replied, “From others.”
Jesus then said something profound:
🟡 “Then the children are exempt.”
Jesus, the Son of God, was not obligated to pay a tax meant for the upkeep of His Father’s house. Yet He chose humility over rights, peace over protest, and love over conflict.
🐠 An Unexpected Miracle
Instead of asking for money, Jesus gave Peter an unusual instruction:
👉 “Go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for My tax and yours.”
No fundraising.
No borrowing.
No debate.
💥 God provided exactly what was needed—at the exact moment—through the most unexpected means.
📌 Powerful Lessons for Us Today
🔹 God owns everything – even the fish in the sea carry out His will.
🔹 Provision follows obedience – Peter had to go and cast the line before the miracle appeared.
🔹 God’s supply is precise – not lacking, not excessive—just right.
🔹 Humility honors God – Jesus chose not to offend, even when He had every right.
🔹 Expect the unexpected – God’s ways are higher, wiser, and often surprising.
🙏 Life Application
When bills come, needs rise, and resources seem scarce, remember this story.
The answer may not be in your pocket yet—but God already knows where it is.
That coin in the fish’s mouth reminds us:
🕊️ God is never late, never short, and never out of options.
✨ Trust Him. Obey Him.
