On a day like today, one year ago, the Senate made history by impeaching the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya Rigathi Gachagua, while he was still lying in a hospital bed.
I urge Kenyans to take this day, 17th October, as a moment of deep reflection on the state of our politics, leadership, patriotism, corruption, accountability, justice, Wantam, democracy, and national unity.
As we also mourn the departure of The Enigma Raila Odinga, let us remember that grief is personal, we mourn differently, and we must respect each other’s ways of honouring his legacy.
Parliament will never forget this day: 17TH OCTOBER - the day it set a precedent as the first legislature in Africa to impeach a sitting DEPUTY PRESIDENT, and the day when THE ENIGMA lay in state for his final farewell.

Jaramogi Oginga Odinga died on January 20, 1994, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Officially, it was reported that he died of a heart attack at his home in Kisumu while resting after dinner. He was later pronounced dead at Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.
There have, however, been various speculations and rumors over the years, some suggesting political foul play, but no evidence has ever been produced to support that. The official cause of death remains heart failure.
