Former Sailors Gang member and Gengetone artist Shalkido has passed away following a fatal hit-and-run motorcycle accident along Thika Road.

The news of his death was confirmed by his fellow Sailors Gang member Miracle Baby and Oga Obinna, who took to social media to mourn the loss of his longtime friend and collaborator.

Shalkido had been admitted to Kenyatta University Hospital after a hit and run while riding on a motorbike wee hours of Sunday Morning, where he sustained severe brain and leg injuries. Earlier reports had indicated that he was declared brain dead before succumbing to his injuries.

The artist’s passing comes just weeks after he publicly shared his financial struggles, prompting fans to come to his aid. In a show of love and solidarity, supporters raised funds and even gifted him a motorbike, the same one he was riding at the time of the accident.

Shalkido rose to fame as part of Sailors Gang, the celebrated Gengetone group behind massive hits like “Wamlambez,” “Pekejeng,” “Queen B,” “Wainame,” and “Sababisha.”

Fans, friends, and fellow musicians have flooded social media with emotional tributes, mourning the loss of a young talent who helped shape the Gengetone sound.

Gengetone artist Kevin Mburu Kinyanjui, popularly known as Shalkido, is currently admitted at the ICU at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital following a road accident Sunday morning. Doctors have confirmed that he sustained internal brain bleeding and a fractured left leg.

The heartbreaking news was shared by comedian Oga Obinna, who revealed that he had been with Shalkido just hours before the crash and urged fans to pray for the former Sailors Gang member’s recovery.
