News reaching my table indicates that there is a serious issue at a certain secondary school in Transmara-East-Ololmasani ward that demands the attention of the government. The issue revolves around the school's policy on school fees payment and the way it is being enforced.

According to reports, the school has sent students home due to unpaid school fees. What is even more concerning is that the school has gone to the extent of forcefully taking the lockers and chairs of the affected students to ensure that they do not step foot on the school compound until they clear their outstanding fees.

This heavy-handed approach by the school administration is not only unreasonable but also unfair to the affected students and their parents. Education is a basic right for every child, and it is the responsibility of the government and other stakeholders to ensure that it is accessible to all, regardless of their economic background.

It is understandable that schools need funds to run their operations, but it is important to note that there are better ways of handling fee defaulters. Expelling students or denying them access to basic learning materials is not the solution.

The school administration should consider adopting a more humane and proactive approach towards fee defaulters. For instance, they could work with the parents to come up with a payment plan that is manageable for them. Alternatively, they could seek the intervention of relevant government agencies or other stakeholders to help address the issue of unpaid school fees.

In conclusion, the actions taken by the school administration in Transmara-East are unacceptable and a cause for concern. It is our collective responsibility to ensure that every child has access to quality education, and this should not be compromised by punitive measures such as denying them access to basic learning materials. The principal and the school administration must act fast to address this issue and find a better way of handling fee defaulters.
