Kisumu National Polytechnic Closed Indefinitely

Following days of unrest, demonstrations, and class boycotts by trainees since Monday, Sept. 15, the Kisumu National Polytechnic has been shut down indefinitely as of Friday, Sept. 19.

The Interim Council cites “inconvenient circumstances” and urges students to stay away from campus until further notice. The protests were reportedly sparked by grievances over fee hikes, culminating in clashes with police involving teargas, stones—and allegedly, live bullets.

Affected students, parents, and guardians are assured that investigations are underway to restore calm and address concerns.

Let’s advocate for peaceful dialogue, accountability, and the dignity of every learner.

BREAKING NEWS.
University Staff Strike Suspended
The Employment and Labour Relations Court has officially suspended the nationwide strike that had disrupted learning across Kenya’s public universities.

Justice Stephen Radido ordered the halt to industrial action pending conciliation talks between unions and government agencies. The move follows the release of Sh2.73 billion in arrears under the 2021–2025 CBA, with further negotiations expected to resolve outstanding demands.
Students can now return to class. Dialogue is underway. Let’s hope for lasting solutions that honour the dignity of educators and safeguard the future of our institutions.

Several feared dead after a tragic accident at the Nyamitembe Bridge, a known black spot along the Migori-Isebania highway. The incident has sparked urgent renewed calls from local residents for the immediate expansion of the narrow bridge.

Eyewitnesses report that a vehicle veered off the bridge earlier today, leading to a significant number of casualties. The narrow structure has long been a point of concern for those who use the road daily.

This is a developing story. We will share more updates as they become available.

We Will Not Go Back to Work Unless Our Money Is Paid.

Lecturers at Rongo University have joined the nationwide strike, demanding the government honour its obligations under the 2017–2021 and 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). The unions—UASU, KUSU, and KUDHEIHA—have condemned the state’s failure to initiate and conclude the 2025–2029 CBA, calling it a deliberate act of neglect toward academic staff. The educators insist that their patience has run out, and they will not resume duties until all pending dues are paid in full.

This coordinated action reflects growing frustration across public universities, where staff have endured years of broken promises and financial uncertainty. With lecture halls now silent, the message is clear: respect the agreements, pay what is owed, and restore dignity to the teaching profession. The strike continues until justice is served.
