Nimco Omar Hajji has strongly condemned the recent controversial remarks made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who alleged that President William Ruto met with Al-Shabaab militants during his visit to Mandera town. She described Gachagua's claims as “irresponsible, dangerous, and politically motivated,” warning that such baseless accusations not only undermine the presidency but also put the lives of innocent citizens at risk—particularly those in Northern Kenya.
Nimco further criticized Gachagua’s reference to the President’s move to scrap the discriminatory ID vetting process in border counties, calling it a “shameful attempt to rekindle ethnic profiling and stigmatization of the people of North Eastern.” She stated that such reckless narratives have historically contributed to the marginalization of communities in the region.
She has called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to summon and investigate Gachagua over his inflammatory statements, which she believes could incite fear, mistrust, and deepen divisions among Kenyans.
“It is unacceptable for a former Deputy President to spew falsehoods that threaten national unity and compromise the dignity of the people of Mandera and the entire Northern region,” Nimco said.
She further urged national leaders to rise above politics of hate and division and instead promote peace, inclusion, and development.
