Dr. Fred Matiang’i: Leadership Must Be Honest, Not Performative

Speaking during a diaspora forum, former Interior CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i stated that if elected president, he will not embrace the habit of carrying a Bible everywhere for show. Instead, he emphasized that his leadership will be rooted in honesty, realism, and service to the people — not empty symbolism.

H.E. Dr. Fred Matiang’i today joined opposition leaders, family, friends, and fellow Kenyans in giving a final send-off to Brigit Njoki — a bright young girl whose life was tragically cut short by rogue police officers during the recent Gen Z protests.

In honouring Brigit’s memory, Dr. Matiang’i has once again called on those in positions of authority to uphold the sanctity of human life and respect the fundamental rights and freedoms of every Kenyan, especially our youth who are demanding a better future.

"We must never allow the blood of innocent Kenyans to be spilled in the name of suppressing their voices. Every young person deserves to be heard, to be protected, and to live with dignity in their own country. Brigit’s death must not be in vain. Let us stand together to ensure justice is served and that our security agencies respect and protect the lives they are sworn to defend."

To Brigit’s family and the many other families grieving loved ones lost during these protests — we stand with you in this painful moment and pledge to continue the fight for a just, accountable, and humane nation.

May her soul rest in peace, and may her courage inspire us all to never relent in demanding the Kenya we know is possible.

Today, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, together with opposition leaders Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Eugene Wamalwa, and other like-minded leaders, continued their tour of Western Kenya, listening to wananchi and amplifying their voices for change.

The mood across the country is clear: law and order must be upheld to the letter. Kenyans everywhere are united in demanding respect for the rule of law and the Constitution — not as a privilege, but as a right that every citizen deserves.

Continued disregard for these fundamental principles only deepens the frustrations of hardworking Kenyans who want a country that works for all.

Today, the good people of Kiminini Constituency in Trans Nzoia County reminded the current regime of this undeniable truth — that governance must be anchored on justice, fairness, and accountability.

To the people of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia and the entire Western region: Asanteni sana for your warm welcome, your trust, and your unwavering belief that together, we can build a better Kenya.

This journey is for every Kenyan who believes that the Constitution must be protected and that no one is above the law.
