DOWNSTREAM TO KINSHASA SCREENING.
Goethe-Institut Nairobi, recently screened Downstream to Kinshasa by Dieudo Hamadi, a Cannes-selected documentary highlighting the scars of war, the strength of survivors, and their unwavering demand for recognition and justice.
Through this film and a two-day masterclass with Dieudo, audiences engaged with the challenges and choices of documentary filmmaking in Africa from cinematography to storytelling.

AFRICAN FUTURISM.
Alliance Française de Nairobi will host the screening of two films by renowned Cameroonian filmmaker -Pierre Bekolo on Tuesday, 24 June at 2PM. The films, Foumban is Wakanda and Naked Reality (PG18), will be shown in French with English subtitles. The screening will be followed by an in-person conversation with Jean-Pierre Bekolo and Kenyan filmmaker and poet Ngwatilo Mawiyoo. Entry is free.

DOCUBOX AND TED COUNTDOWN PREMIERE 8 SHORT CLIMATE DOCUMENTARIES BY YOUNG KENYAN FILMMAKERS.
Docubox - The East African Documentary Film Fund, in partnership with TED Countdown, premiered 8 short climate documentaries created by young filmmakers in Nairobi. The films were developed through the TED Countdown x Docubox Short Climate Documentary Program, which offered weeks of mentorship and hands-on training. Shot using mobile phones, the documentaries reflect the filmmakers’ personal perspectives on the climate crisis.

ACTION TO CREATION WORKSHOP .
Life Festival 2025 will host a free workshop titled Action to Creation on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd June at Kayole Social Hall from 9:00AM. The workshop will be led by dancer and choreographer Leadinho King.
It is open to both trained dancers and anyone who enjoys movement. Participants will explore how movement can be used as a creative tool and how spontaneous actions can turn into meaningful dance.

The Cinematic Closet Roundtable brought together filmmakers, students, makeup artists, costume designers, past award winners, and key industry players including the Kenya Film Commission. The event, convened by and .nyamgero, highlighted the role of costume and makeup in storytelling, cultural preservation, and the growth of Kenya’s film industry. With over 15 universities and colleges represented, it was a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and the future of film.

Film Fupi Academy – Cohort 2 held a film directing class at SOS Children’s Villages, Buruburu, giving young filmmakers practical experience and space to explore the director’s role.
Filmmaker Mark Maina returned for his fourth session, sharing lessons from his journey across international and local film scenes.
The program continues to support young talent through collaboration, mentorship, and strong community engagement.
