One Person Shot in Nairobi CBD During Ongoing Protests

Tensions escalated sharply in Nairobi's Central Business District today as protests turned violent, with one person reportedly shot at point-blank range near Imenti House.

The victim, identified by a colleague as Ali, was a street mask vendor. Eyewitnesses say he was shot during a confrontation between police and demonstrators, in scenes marked by chaos, tear gas, and stampedes.

“He wasn’t even part of the protest. He was just selling masks where he always does,” said a fellow vendor, visibly shaken.

Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the shooting. Human rights groups and protest organizers have condemned the use of live ammunition, demanding immediate accountability and medical assistance for the injured.

Crowds have since gathered at the site of the incident, chanting slogans and calling for justice.

IG Japhet Koome Ordered to Compensate KMPDU SG Following Police Brutality

Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome has been ordered by the court to compensate the Secretary General of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) following an incident of police brutality during a peaceful protest.

The ruling stems from an earlier incident in which the KMPDU Secretary General was assaulted by police officers while leading a demonstration to advocate for better working conditions and pay for healthcare workers. The court found that the actions by the police were unlawful, excessive, and a violation of fundamental rights.

In its ruling, the court directed Koome and the National Police Service to:

Pay damages to the KMPDU SG (exact figure to be confirmed)

Issue a formal public apology

Ensure disciplinary action is taken against the officers involved

This ruling is being hailed as a major win for civil liberties and accountability, especially amid rising concerns over the excessive use of force by law enforcement during public protests.

IG Douglas Kanja Responds to Samidoh Transfer Controversy

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has addressed public speculation surrounding the recent transfer of popular police officer and Mugithi star Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, widely known as Samidoh, from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit headquarters in Gilgil to Baringo County, a region grappling with insecurity and banditry.

The move follows the viral circulation of a video showing Samidoh chanting “Wantam”—a slogan with political undertones—during a public performance, raising concerns that his transfer may have been disciplinary in nature.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, IG Kanja stated:

> “Transfers are a routine administrative process within the police service. No officer is exempt, including Samidoh. Assignments are based on operational needs.”

He declined to confirm whether the viral video influenced the decision but emphasized that professionalism must be maintained by all officers, regardless of their public profiles.

Samidoh has not publicly commented on the transfer.
