President William Ruto unveiled the list of Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) nominees on Thursday, March 16.

The 50 nominees are double the 23 that were recommended by former Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua in his letter to the Public Service Commission after court okayed the creation of the position.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government had had 26 CASs.

The nominees are now awaiting vetting and approval by Parliament.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) has approved murder charges against three police officers in Garissa County.

The three, Benson Mulinge, Michael Rotich and Osoi Sakimba, all police constables at Madogo Police Station will be charged with murder following the death of Ibrahim Issack Gutu, a boda boda rider in Madogo township.

Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa), which investigated the matter concluded that the three officers should be charged.

Ipoa launched a probe after the death of Gutu, who was arrested by the three officers on May 30, 2014, and later found dead three days later.

The three took Gutu and bundled him into a private car belonging to one of them but failed to book him at any of the police stations in Garissa and Tana River Counties.

Seven Virginia sheriff’s deputies have been charged with murder in the death of a man who had been arrested and was physically restrained while being admitted to a hospital this month, authorities said.

The seven Henrico County deputies are charged with second-degree murder in the March 6 death of Irvo Otieno, 28, the Dinwiddie County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said in a statement Tuesday.

The prosecutor’s office said that Otieno was to be admitted to a hospital, that he was physically restrained and that he died during the intake process.

“He died of asphyxia due to being smothered to death, thanks to having at least seven people, including the defendant, on top of him and holding him down,” Commonwealth’s Attorney Ann Cabell Baskervill said at a court hearing Wednesday

Two suspects were yesterday arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts for swindling a foreigner of gold worth Sh123 million.

The two Nicholas Otieno Ndolo and Thomas Otieno Ngoe appeared before senior principal magistrate Charles Mwaniki.

Police applied for 14 days to hold the two as they complete investigations into the scam where the foreigner was to purchase gold weighing 3000 kilograms.

The two were however released on a cash bail of Sh500 000 and ordered to appear before the investigating officer whenever required.

A herder was injured after an explosive device he tried to break out of curiosity hit him in Mandera East.

Abdirizak Muktar, 21 was taking care of a herd of camels in the Qombiso area when he stumbled on an object on March 14.

He picked up the object and started to break it using a stone before it exploded on his face and badly injured him on March 14, police said.

Police said they later realized the object was an abandoned hand gr***de.

This was discovered through analysis of ordinance at the scene.
