“Any country can never develop without manufacturing.”

KENYA: Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has said he will join and support a political party or formation that heavily supports and actualises manufacturing expansion, gives priority to education, particularly free day school education, and provides an insurance policy for the poor.

“I have seen an attempt by the current government to boost manufacturing, but the scale and depth are not sufficient. I have seen countries like Mauritius, which pivoted strongly toward manufacturing.”

“China has now done away with tariffs on African countries, meaning we are at an advantageous position to attract investments from the Chinese who intend to manufacture and send goods back to China,” Kang’ata visualised.

Kenya's next general election will be held on August 8, 2027.

"It is possible for us to give free day school education in this country."

KENYA: As President William Ruto continue to push for the construction of modern markets across the country, Murang'a Governor Irungu Kang'ata believes the money can fully fund day secondary education.

The governor suspects there will be a mismatch in the number of traders in those modern markets and the amount pumped into the projects.

"We have 2.7 million students in secondary day schools. The average out-of-pocket expenditure per student is KES 13,000. If you multiply that by 2.7 million, that is about KES 35 billion. I suspect that money would be enough to fund free secondary day schools."

"When Uhuru Kenyatta was president, Githurai market was constructed at a budget of KSh 800 million. No one trades there. Another market is in Kieni, a huge market. When you enter it, you find very few traders. I suspect there will be a mismatch in the number of traders in those markets vis-à-vis the amount pumped into the projects," the governor indicated.

Investment banker Rina Hicks has urged people to consider diversification of their investments.

"An emergency fund or an extra course to give you a higher pay or another job is putting something in your security basket. If my salary doesn't come through or a pandemic happens, your basic needs are taken care of. Your assets must do that.

"Have a Money Market Fund (MFF) because you must have liquidity so that when an opportunity arises, you can deploy. You can invest in MMF, but you need to do more."

"Put your money into these boring things. You will be happy for it later," she added.
