Summary of the KSh 4.82 trillion national budget for the 2026/27 financial year presented by CS John Mbadi to Parliament.

1. The Fiscal Framework (Revenue & Spending)

Total Expenditure: KSh 4.820 trillion Recurrent

Expenditure: KSh 3.568 trillion Development

Expenditure: KSh 750 billion Total Revenue

Target: KSh 3.631 trillion (with Ordinary Revenue targeted at KSh 2.986 trillion)

Budget Deficit: KSh 1.146 trillion

Borrowing Plan: To plug the gap, Treasury intends to borrow KSh 1.03 trillion domestically and KSh 116.2 billion externally.

2. Key Sector Allocations.

Education: KSh 781.4 billion (the largest recipient, including KSh 4.9 billion to hire 20,000 intern teachers on permanent terms and KSh 56.7 billion for HELB).

National Security: KSh 567 billion (crossing the half-trillion mark, with KSh 252.1 billion going to Defence and KSh 144.7 billion to the National Police Service).

Roads and Transport: KSh 230 billion.

Health Sector: KSh 175.5 billion (allocated to support Universal Health Coverage, including KSh 19.1 billion for the Primary Healthcare Fund and KSh 18.5 billion for the Global Fund).

Affordable Housing & Urban Development: KSh 135.8 billion (comprising KSh 50 billion for affordable units and KSh 20.9 billion for social housing)

Agriculture & Food Security: KSh 106.8 billion (including KSh 18 billion earmarked for the fertilizer subsidy program)

Sports Fund: KSh 25.2 billion (increased by over 50% to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations).

Youth & Jobs: KSh 23 billion (including KSh 12.5 billion for the National Youth Service and KSh 2 billion for graduate paid internships via NextGen. Ke).

Village Elders Stipends: KSh 3.9 billion (a first-time direct allocation to formalize monthly stipends for village heads).

3. Governance Allocations by Arm

Executive: KSh 2.92 trillion.

Parliament: KSh 50.98 billion.

Judiciary: KSh 30.38 billion.

Devolved Units (Counties): KSh 428 billion in equitable share (plus KSh 74 billion in conditional transfers

🚨 BREAKING: We reveal the news that even Ruto himself might not have wanted many of you to know today.

He has landed back in Kenya aboard private jet T7-BBJ at 6:30 PM EAT.

Coincidentally, or not, his return came at the exact moment the entire country was glued to the KSh 4.8 trillion Budget debate.

While Kenyans were busy discussing taxes, spending, and the cost of living, the President quietly touched down back home.

This appears to mark the end of a trip that cost taxpayers more than KSh 4 million per flight hour.

We tracked this aircraft from the moment it left Finland.

We waited for government officials to announce his arrival. None did.

As usual, the question is simple:

What exactly was the ROI of this trip?

If it's deals, this government has announced hundreds of deals from dozens of foreign trips. Yet most Kenyans cannot point to a single change in their daily lives that is due to them.

If it's 1,000 jobs in Norway, then compare the cost of the trip against the salaries those jobs will generate.

At some point, taxpayers have to ask whether these trips are investments or expensive photo opportunities.

The Budget was read today.
Taxes were defended today.
Billions were allocated today.
And quietly, the President returned home.

I've just watched footage aired by Citizen TV showing plain-clothes officers shooting at MMU students. I've extracted images from the video and amplified them for identification.

The images may not be 100% conclusive, but if you recognize any of the individuals, please share their names below.

This is the legacy of the Ruto government.

Whenever protests break out, and force is used, and the government wants to kill Kenyans, plain-clothes officers seem to appear alongside uniformed police. They are the ones who shoot Kenyans.

Time and again, witnesses report them arriving in Proboxes and Subarus.

We've documented several such cases.

Kenyans deserve answers. Who are these men? Who deployed them? Who will be held accountable if lives are lost?

I have a strong feeling that handing Kalonzo Musyoka the united opposition ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election would immediately spell doom for our cause because of the following reasons:

✅Perception as a "Kingmaker" Rather Than a President.

For more than two decades, Kalonzo has often been viewed as a coalition partner, running mate, or negotiator rather than the principal candidate. Some voters, myself included, still struggle to visualize him as the country's chief executive.

✅Limited National Political Momentum.

While he enjoys strong support in Ukambani, presidential elections require broad appeal across multiple regions. Kalonzo has yet to build the kind of nationwide movement that successful presidential candidates typically possess.

✅Difficulty Generating Enthusiasm Among Younger Voters.

Many young voters are looking for leaders who represent a new political generation. Kalonzo is often viewed as part of the traditional political establishment rather than as a symbol of political renewal and change.

✅Lack of a Distinctive Political Brand.

Many successful presidential campaigns are built around a clear identity or a defining message. Kalonzo's political brand has largely been associated with coalition politics rather than a transformative agenda that captures the national imagination.

The first and most important step to send William Samoei Ruto back to Sugoi, is the United Alternative Government and Linda Mwananchi team to unite behind one presidential candidate

The second and most critical step is to front a strong, no-nonsense leader with a proven record of service: H.E. Dr. Fred Matiang'i

If they all support Dr. Fred Matiang'i then William Samoei Ruto and his team will have no credible line of attack. They cannot claim the opposition candidate has no track record because Dr. Fred Matiang'i has a distinguished record of public service. They cannot say the candidate has spent 40 years in politics doing nothing because Matiang'i built his reputation through service, not career politics. They cannot claim the candidate has achieved nothing for Kenya because Matiangi's work speaks for itself

They cannot accuse Matiang'i of tribal politics because Kenyans know Matiang'i stands for national unity. They cannot say the opposition candidate survives by abusing others because Dr. Fred Matiang'i is known for issue-based leadership. They cannot claim the opposition lacks an agenda because Matiang'i has consistently focused on practical solutions to the country's challenges

I have said it before, and I will say it again: Dr. Fred Matiang'i is the strongest engine to drive William Samoei Ruto back to Sugoi. A united opposition behind a tested, disciplined and results-oriented leader would present the toughest challenge to William Samoei Ruto 2027

Rigathi Gachagua has announced that after this weekend's major rally in Kakamega in support of Cleophas Malala and others,

He will retreat to Wamunyoro for 45 days to hold consultations and negotiations aimed at uniting the opposition behind a single presidential candidate.

According to Gachagua, elders and other leaders have urged him to lead the process. He says he will largely stay away from public events during this period as talks continue.

If this plan succeeds, Kenya could soon see a united opposition candidate. Interestingly, Gachagua has indicated he is open to supporting any opposition leader agreed upon through the negotiations.

As we pointed out last week, losing the impeachment case may have strengthened rather than weakened the opposition by giving it a common rallying point.
