President William Samoei Ruto's journey to State House was a masterclass in strategic political organization, resilience, and national appeal. With just 615 days to the 2022 General Election, he had already galvanized the support of 140 Members of Parliament by 2020—an unprecedented show of strength that reflected his deep-rooted networks and vision that resonated with millions of Kenyans.
In stark contrast, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua now faces a much longer runway—764 days to the next election—but has so far only secured the backing of 8 MPs in 2025. This glaring disparity speaks volumes about his limited influence and lack of national momentum.
While Ruto united a country behind his bottom-up economic model, Gachagua seems to be struggling even to consolidate support within his own political backyard. The difference in leadership quality, strategy, and political magnetism is becoming increasingly apparent.
