A son's laughter is music to her mother's ears and brings joy to her soul.
But to Agnes Wanjiru, it's been years of pain and struggle watching her Son 28-Year-Olf Macharia struggling through depression and lives in a tent at a local dump site where he makes a living through garbage collection and recycling plastic products. The mother of seven makes a living through collecting firewood and logs from the nearby forest and sells them locally at Ksh 100 ($ 0.8) so she can pay her grandchildrens school, food and manage her rent. Joseph collects the recycled plastic waste and later sells them to local pplastic waste collectors who pays Ksh 10 or less per Kilogram. Agnes Wanjiru prays that her son will get a job someday and buy her a piece of land away from Kibera.

Hello everyone. A few days ago I documented a video of my fellow professional journalists Nasibo Kadane during my street interviews. The video which went viral hitting over 3 million viewers on my tiktok account. I'm here not for my self but for a brilliant woman that I feel should go back to the industry she once was a few years back. Kindly help me share this to be able to help the woman who became a friend just through an interview done with a smartphone. I hope you find some time to share any amount you can so my friend can bounce back.... I kindly request all of us to check on our fellows and always know that mental illnesses and depression is just as risky as any other diseases... . Depression Is Real.

The new year comes with us making resolutions and setting goals we would want to achieve. Both collective and personal goals, they all strive to push us to be better in what we do or want to to do. It is with this in mind that we ask that you leave a resolution for our children.

The Africans believe that it takes a village to raise a child. In that vein, raising a child goes beyond the immediate family, to all of us. And as such, the care of the closest child, kin or not, should be one of our priorities this year.

Volunteer at various child-oriented NGOs, donate educational and other materials that would come in handy towards their growth. Pray for all of them who are either victims of violence or in vulnerable positions. Take up a self-imposed community service of catering for any form of need a child would want around you. Do not encourage any act that would make them anything less than the perfect image the society wishes they are. In other words, in 2022, take the life of an African child PERSONALLY.

The future may belong to them, but it can only be truly theirs if they have the necessary empowerments they would need to take up that mantle of leadership when we are no more here. It all starts now. It all starts from today.

Take an African Child seriously...NOW!

The Kamkunji Jua Kali was started by detainees of the British Government during the Mau Mau rebellion. The word Jua Kali stands for “fierce Sun", Started with only nine members, 30 years ago, today the Kamkunji Jua Kali consists of about 5000 artisans who are both trained on forging metals making them into useable products such as Sculptures, religious items, utensils weapons and many more. The artisans also depend on metal forging as their source of income and paying their taxes.

Even in Lamu Island children are currently not attending schools, as they are still closed. It is saddening to see them wandering around with no direction. Other than playing together, they can easily be spotted selling candies, nuts or crisps in the streets, otherwise they help their families with the daily chores or take over small businesses. I met this girl a few weeks ago while she was selling chai ☕️ in an improvised shop. I came back to visit last week but couldn’t find her, nor the shop. Only the pink wall which served as backdrop of her photographs remains there... and of course a series of unanswered questions in my head

Maternity Protection

In Kenia umgehen viele Arbeitgeber die Regelungen für werdende Mütter. Schwangere in Schweden arbeiten so lange wie sie können. Russische Mütter erhalten vom Staat für jedes Neugeborene eine größere Summe.

Can COVID-19 change the way African cities are planned in the future?

Can COVID-19 change the way African cities are planned in the future? Can science measure wisdom and what is wisdom anyway? Can Darwinism and religion happily co-exist and now that we're not doing a lot of right now, how important is touch?
