It is with great reluctance that we feel obliged to address Senator Ledama Ole Kina's remarks regarding the alleged misappropriation of resources by governors and their management of counties as if they were personal assets during the past three years of the Ruto administration. Senator Ole Kina's critique may indeed highlight valid concerns about the ferment within counties, emphasizing that Kenyans have legitimate reasons to be alarmed by a swamp out of which we have been unable to swim.
Nevertheless, blurring the line between fiction and reality can be done for many purposes, starting with having fun and going all the way to survival. Senator Ledama's statement is yet another whopper—or rather, a confutation of reality. It is important to note that he should not solely hold governors accountable, given that the President of Kenya has been identified as the second most corrupt leader by a global anti-graft coalition.
Senator Ledama should first strive to rescue ODM leaders from the jaws of poverty, which manifests in twofold: poverty of liquidity and poverty of truth. The leadership of the ODM party lacks the ethical standing to critique others regarding corruption, particularly in light of their leader Raila Odinga's own history of overseeing some of the most contentious corruption cases in Kenya.
Senator Ledama's boss, Raila Odinga, is often regarded as one of the most untrustworthy politicians in Kenyan history, frequently accused of a blatant disregard for the truth. Raila's propensity for corruption and deceit has manifested in ways that range from the bizarre to the horrifying. The "People’s President" is penitent over bribes and an abundantly believable picture of rampant corruption.
A particularly stinging indictment of Raila's alleged corrupt practices is invidious accusations of his willingness to engage in multivalent handshakes with every ruling government, most recently aligning with Ruto's administration after being allegedly compromised
Additionally, he has been criticized for legitimizing the internationally recognized criminal activities of the Adani Group for personal gain. In all facets of his political life, Raila Odinga has obtrusively shown preference to dishonesty and people of the complexion of corruption. Raila has repeatedly failed to meet the expectations of the Kenyan populace by telling Kenyans little white lies, which often lead to big black lies.
His party, ODM, no longer reflects the broader aspirations of Kenyans. Once seen as a beacon of hope, ODM has distanced itself from its original identity as a progressive political force or forward-thinking political entity.
So for Senator Ledama, having such anodyne personalities around him suggests that he is ensconced in a bubble, perceiving reality through a distorted lens rather than acknowledging the truth. How does one tell an old man that he is not telling the truth without calling him a liar? Raila exemplifies a devoted liar. He and his ODM choir probably believe that Kenyans have short memories. Our entire national moral apparatus seems nonplussed and unable to come to grips with the new threat posed by the berthing of falsehoods and dishonesty by Raila and ODM on our shores.
The underlying source of the corruption issues plaguing our nation can be traced to Raila's and ODM's consistent harping on artificially contrived fault lines in pursuit of factious and misleading Canaan that we have harbored and allowed unnecessarily to fester.
The two dominant political parties, ODM and UDA, have formed a corrupt alliance that has destroyed everything and are like Siamese twins of corruption. Over the past several months, following the establishment of a broad-based government, we have seen firsthand what happens when politicians are in it for themselves, when they use public money as their private piggy banks, and when they pollute the whole political atmosphere with an inability to serve the public good.
The transgressions committed by these parties during this period should lead Kenyans to withhold their trust from them in the future. It has become evident that these parties are unlikely to change, even if granted another opportunity. The UDA and ODM factions have created a collusive coalition that perpetuates corruption, and we are all aware of this reality. They did not come with good intentions to make amends for the good of the polity and Kenyans.
In examining the fight against corruption, it is apparent that many individuals who should face prosecution have found refuge within the ODM or UDA. This situation underscores the urgent need for a new political platform composed of honest and patriotic citizens.
There is a widespread concern that numerous ODM leaders, who could have upheld accountability and ensured the fulfilment of campaign pledges outlined in their manifesto, have instead relinquished their ideology and obligated duties by engaging in corruption and seeking government appointments for themselves.
The revelations concerning the deep rot in the broad-based government both in counties and the national government that will come in the weeks and months ahead are likely to astonish even the most fervent critics of the Kenyan opposition's attempts to rescue the nation from the clutches of corruption. it was high time Kenyans looked for a credible alternatives.
