Woman Representative aspirant Ann Monirei has called for stronger and coordinated efforts to empower women and address challenges affecting them as the world marks International Womenโs Day.
In a statement, Monirei said women continue to play a central role in shaping families, communities and the nation through their dedication, leadership and commitment to development.
She noted that women contribute significantly to society in various capacities, including as farmers, teachers, entrepreneurs and community leaders, while also serving as custodians of cultural heritage.
โWomen play a vital role in nurturing families, preserving culture, building businesses and contributing to economic growth,โ she said, adding that their contributions to society deserve recognition and sustained support.
However, the aspirant observed that many women and girls still face major obstacles such as limited economic opportunities, gender-based violence, teenage pregnancies and unequal access to education.
Monirei said addressing these challenges requires collective responsibility from government, community leaders and society at large to ensure women and girls are able to realise their full potential.
She also paid tribute to women who shoulder dual parental responsibilities in their families.
โOn this International Womenโs Day, we celebrate all women, especially those who play the role of both mother and father in raising and supporting their families,โ she said.
