WOMEN'S CATEGORIES

Track Athlete of the Year: Julien Alfred (Saint Lucia), the Olympic 100m champion, and Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (USA), the Olympic 400m hurdles champion.

Field Athlete of the Year: Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine), who won Olympic gold in high jump, and Nafissatou Thiam (Belgium), the Olympic heptathlon champion.

Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year: Ruth Chepngetich (Kenya), known for her world record in the marathon, and Sifan Hassan (Netherlands), the Olympic marathon champion.

MEN'S CATEGORIES

Track Athlete of the Year: Jakob Ingebrigtsen (Norway), Olympic 5000m champion, and Letsile Tebogo (Botswana), Olympic 200m champion.

Field Athlete of the Year: Mondo Duplantis (Sweden), the Olympic pole vault champion, and Miltiadis Tentoglou (Greece), who claimed Olympic gold in the long jump.

Out of Stadium Athlete of the Year: Brian Pintado (Ecuador), Olympic 20km race walk champion, and Tamirat Tola (Ethiopia), the Olympic marathon champion.

“Elisha Ongoya, popularly known as Elisha Zebedee Ongoya is a senior lecturer at Kabarak University, apart from being a partner at Ongoya and Wambola Advocates and a seasoned author of law related books/materials.

Elisha prefers being called by his students and colleagues as "Mzee Zebedee Ongoya" because according to his culture, everyone having a home is considered a Mzee. He hails from Mukoko village in the heart of Kakamega county where he has a beautiful home.

Elisha went to St. Paul's Ikalikha Primary School before proceeding to Musingu High School and later the University of Nairobi where he studied law. Despite him and most of his family members having Luo names, they identify as Luhyas.

He speaks five languages; English, Kiswahili, French, Luhya and Dholuo.”

Memorial Walk was held today in Iten Town, Elgeyo Marakwet County in honour of the late World Champion Kelvin Kiptum who lost his life in a road traffic accident

May his soul rest in peace.
