MCA SONKO: TODAY’S PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FORUMS WERE NULL AND VOID

The Office of the MCA for Ikanga/Kyatune Ward, Hon. Cyrus Musyoka alias Sonko, has rejected today’s public participation forums conducted across all seven county villages of the Ward, terming the exercise null and void.
According to the MCA, residents were called upon to identify their first priority projects under the CLIDIP programme, but village administrators had already been directed by the Office of the Governor to make ECDE classrooms the first priority in every village, leaving wananchi to deliberate only on second and third priorities. “You cannot call people to a public participation forum and then tell them what they must choose as their first priority. That is not public participation. The people must be allowed to decide what they need most,” Hon. Sonko said.
The MCA has maintained that Ikanga/Kyatune currently has more pressing needs, particularly roads and dispensaries in villages without adequate health facilities. He has also questioned the construction of more ECDE classrooms while some existing centres remain non operational due to a lack of teachers. “We are not against development. We are demanding development that reflects the priorities of our people,” Sonko stated.
Hon. Sonko has consequently said his office will not validate projects imposed on the people against their expressed priorities. He has called upon residents from all seven villages to attend tomorrow’s planned validation exercise at Ikanga Town and firmly demand that their voices and priorities be respected.
“CLIDIP money is meant to serve the people. Let the people decide what should come first. Public participation must be genuine, and the priorities of Ikanga/Kyatune must be determined by its people, not imposed upon them.”
