: 59 INJURED IN CLASHES AFTER COLOMBIA FOOTBALL FINAL
At least 59 people were injured after violent clashes erupted at the end of Colombia’s Copa Colombia final in Medellín on Wednesday night.
The unrest broke out moments after Atlético Nacional defeated city rivals Deportivo Independiente Medellín 1–0 at the Atanasio Girardot Stadium.
Videos shared online showed fans from both sides storming the pitch and hurling objects as riot police moved in to restore order.
Medellín’s security secretary Manuel Villa said 52 supporters were treated for injuries, while police confirmed seven officers were also hurt. No arrests were immediately reported.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible for the violence, which overshadowed the highly anticipated local derby.

: COURT BLOCKS BID TO WITHDRAW PETITION AGAINST RITZ‑CARLTON MAASAI MARA CAMP
The Environment and Land Court has stopped an attempt by a conservation activist to withdraw a petition challenging the operations of the Ritz‑Carlton Maasai Mara safari camp, ruling that the matter raises serious public‑interest concerns.
Justice Lucy Gacheru noted that the issues at the centre of the case, including allegations that the development obstructs a key wildebeest migratory corridor, are too significant to be dropped without full judicial examination.
The petition, filed by environmental activist Joel Meitamei Ole Dapash in August 2025, seeks to halt the camp’s operations over claims of environmental harm within the Maasai Mara ecosystem.
Formal notice of withdrawal was submitted to the court on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
The court said it must be satisfied that withdrawing such a case would not prejudice the public, given its national and international implications.
The matter will now proceed to a full hearing.

: BOBI WINE WARNS MUSEVENI AGAINST EXCESSIVE USE OF FORCE
Ugandan opposition leader Bobi Wine has warned President Yoweri Museveni against using excessive force ahead of the upcoming elections, stressing that his call to citizens is for peaceful, constitutionally protected protests.
In a message posted on his X account, Bobi Wine said his movement does not promote violence but encourages ordinary Ugandans to demand their rights without resorting to force.
He added that protests would not be necessary if the government guarantees a free, fair and transparent election.
He accused the government of suppressing opposition campaigns, blocking access to radio stations and arresting campaign workers.
Bobi Wine also raised concern over reports that security forces have been issued 120 bullets per officer, calling it a sign of a “brutal regime” preparing to respond to peaceful protests with live ammunition.
Sending a final message to Museveni, Bobi Wine said: “You cannot kill all Ugandans. The people will decide their destiny.”

: BRUSSELS FARMER PROTEST TURNS UGLY AS EU–MERCOSUR DEAL TEETERS
A farmers’ protest in Brussels escalated on Thursday as hundreds of tractors blocked roads and police used water cannons near the EU quarter.
The demonstration coincided with an EU leaders’ summit debating the stalled EU–Mercosur trade deal.
Farmers from several European countries say the agreement with South American nations would expose them to cheaper imports and threaten their livelihoods.
The unrest highlighted growing pressure on EU leaders as they consider the future of the long‑delayed pact.
