: KENYA RECEIVES SH390MN FROM CHINA TO BOOST MATERNAL HEALTHCARE
Kenya has received Sh390 million from China to strengthen maternal and child health services in the country’s northeastern region.
The programme is expected to directly benefit more than 652,000 people and indirectly reach another 630,000 residents through expanded emergency, newborn and maternal care.
Chinese Ambassador Guo Haiyan said the initiative responds to pressing local health challenges and will prioritize precision cooperation, training of health workers, and strict resource management.
She emphasized that maternal and child health remains central to Global South cooperation, serving to protect human rights and dignity.
The project builds on commitments made during President William Ruto’s 2025 State Visit to Beijing and reflects China’s Global Development Initiative championed by President Xi Jinping.
Implementation will be carried out in partnership with UNICEF and Kenya’s Ministry of Health.

: ONLY 2% OF SENIOR SCHOOLS HIT BY UNREST, MINISTRY SAYS 98% REMAIN STABLE
The Ministry of Education has downplayed fears of widespread disruption in learning institutions, revealing that less than 2 percent of the country’s senior schools have experienced unrest in recent weeks.
According to official data, 204 schools have reported disturbances, with 59 already resuming normal operations.
The Ministry emphasized that over 98 percent of schools remain stable, with day schools largely unaffected and learners in Grades 1 to 9 continuing their studies without interruption.
Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba noted that the unrest is concentrated in boarding senior schools, driven by factors such as leadership challenges, exam stress, poor conditions, drug abuse, and copycat behavior.
He however commended the majority of learners, teachers, and parents for maintaining discipline and stability across the education system.
The government has announced a multi-stakeholder team to probe the causes of unrest and pledged firm action against perpetrators. Schools have been directed to strengthen safety measures, convene urgent parents’ meetings, and intensify guidance and counselling programs.
Ogamba stressed that the overwhelming majority of schools remain calm, urging collective responsibility to safeguard education and nurture learners into responsible citizens.
