At least 104 players are competing in the NCBA Ruiru Open, which teed off today Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Ruiru Sports Club.
Leading the charge is championship frontrunner John Lejirma, who sits atop the NCBA KAGC standings with 1,185 points.

Lejirma returns to Ruiru aiming to defend his title, having won last yearโ€™s edition with a dominant 11-under-par finish.

Joining the competitive field is Michael Karanga of Kiambu Golf Club, currently ranked second with 903 points, along with an impressive lineup of elite women golfers including Joyce Wanjiru (Kiambu), Bianca Ngecu (Muthaiga), Naomi Wafula (Vipingo), and rising teenage star Kanana Muthomi (Windsor).

Kakamega Sports Clubโ€™s seasoned pro Dismas Indiza staged a thrilling comeback to edge out Royal Nairobiโ€™s John Lejirma in a sudden-death playoff and clinch victory in the Ruiru leg of the Sunshine Development Tour โ€“ East Africa Swing.

Starting the final round five shots off the lead, Indiza capitalized on Lejirmaโ€™s early struggles to post a level-par 72 and tie at 4-under par 212 after regulation play.

The playoff was decided at the par-4 18th, where Indiza drained a birdie putt while Lejirma settled for par, sealing the win and the KES 400,000 winnerโ€™s cheque from the KES 2 million prize pool.

Lejirma delivered a composed performance on the front nine, carding birdies on the 2nd, 8th, and 9th holes, with a single bogey at the par-3 6th.

He maintained momentum on the back nine, picking up further birdies on the 10th, 13th, 14th, 17th, and 18th.

Despite a dropped shot on the 12th, he ended the day with a commanding four-shot lead over fellow elite amateur Michael Karanga of Ndumberi Golf Club.

Karanga sits second after posting a solid 2-under-par 70.

Home players stole the spotlight at the Kitale Golf Club as Evans Kirui and Josephine Chesang emerged overall gross winners during the 2025 NCBA Golf Series leg held on Saturday.

Their stellar performances secured them spots in the highly anticipated Grand Finale later in November, where theyโ€™ll look to once again raise Kitaleโ€™s banner high.

Kirui, playing off handicap 11, delivered a composed round of 81 to clinch the Overall Gross Menโ€™s title.

Chesang, the 2023 Ladies Nett winner at the Grand Finale, continued her fine form by carding 95 gross off handicap 23 to take top honours among the ladies, earning another shot at the national crown.

They lead a team of four other qualifiers from the event.

A strong field of 105 golfers from six countriesโ€”Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi, and South Africaโ€”is set to battle it out in the second leg of the Sunshine Development Tour โ€“ East Africa Swing, teeing off today, Monday, June 9, at Ruiru Sports Club.

The three-day tournament, running through June 11, features a mixed field of top professionals and elite amateurs, both men and women, competing not only for the title but also for valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.

This leg follows a successful opener at Thika Greens Golf Resort last week, where Njoroge Kibugu of Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club emerged victorious after posting rounds of 64, 70, and 67 to finish on 15-under par, pocketing the KES 400,000 winnerโ€™s cheque.

Kibugu, who leads the field at Ruiru, is keen to carry forward the momentum.

The tournament will be played over 54 holes, with a cut after round two that will see only the top 30 players advance to the final round.

Up for grabs is a KES 2 million prize purse, to be shared among those who make the cut.

Round one tees off today at 8:00 a.m., with the opening group featuring Felix Dusabe (Kigali Golf Club), Ronald Otile (Uganda Golf Club), and Richard Ainley (Nakuru Golf Club).
