โPolice are not our enemies, but rather good neighbours.โ These are the words of Hashim Mohamed, the Managing Director of Warsan Hotel in Garissa, who is leading by example to strengthen the bond between the police and the public.
On Friday, September 26, Hashim officially handed over newly constructed toilets at the Garissa Police Station, a project he personally funded to serve both officers on duty and members of the public visiting the station.
According to Hashim, the initiative is more than just a sanitation project it is a statement that police officers are human too and that the relationship between law enforcement and the community should always remain positive and cooperative.
โThis is not the first time I have built toilets for a public institution,โ he said. โIn fact, I have so far constructed 14 public latrines across the country. The idea for this particular project came after a relative of mine was told to go back home and use her own toilet when she came to report a case here. There were no facilities available at the station, and that experience pushed me to act.โ
Speaking during the launch, North Eastern Regional Police Commander Pepita Ranka praised Hashim for his generosity and vision, saying the new facilities will greatly improve working conditions for officers and provide much-needed convenience to the public.
โMr. Hashim has set a great example,โ said Ranka. โPolice officers, like everyone else, deserve a clean and conducive environment to work in. Initiatives like this go a long way in strengthening trust and cooperation between the police and the community.โ
Hashim Mohamed is among the regionโs most promising entrepreneurs, running Warsan Hotel in Garissa and Nairobi. Through his actions, he hopes to inspire others to support public institutions and foster stronger community police relations.
